In my obssesion to get christmas bought and paid for by the end of the summer, i have crossed paths of a certain builder!!!! I will try to review this LIVE dvd version of Bob the builder, and try to do it justice as even though i feel parents should not be forced to watch some of the dreadful programmes that are made for children, feel i owe some loyalty to Bob, one of my main childsitters bar my mum!!!!!
Bob the builder and characters are clay characters created by Cody Hill. The animation is produced in the uk, but as with so many things is then poached and finished off in the United States for the company Hit Entertainment.
The animation itself draws heavily on the stop motion techniques pioneered by Art Cloakey and inspired by Aardman Animations.
The programme itself is very cleverly thought out with great characters who, always seem to have a message to project to the children in the audience. How the programme is shown is, Bob is the adult figure of the group and with Wendys help, guides the machine characters in the right direction,also the character of Spud is almost a substitute for a child,always in trouble and needing reprimanding!!
Bob the builder - is a construction contracter,(voiced by Neil Morrisey), is the main character, and whose catchphrase is "reduce,reuse and recycle".
Wendy - is Bobs second in command,and has also on numerous occasions, been hinted as Bob's romantic interest!
Spud - is the scarecrow who belongs to farmer Pickles, is the most child-like of all the characters.He is always in trouble or causing trouble, leaving a trail of distruction behind him. His catchphrase is "Spuds on the job!".
Scoop -is one of the vehicles that are kept in bobs yard. He is a yellow digger and his catchphrase is "no, probs Bob".
Lofty - is a rather timid character, never very sure of himself and tends to follow the others than lead. He is a blue crane and his catchphrase is "uh, yeah, i think so".
Dizzy - is my favourite character, she is the only female vehicle in the yard.She is as her name describes DIZZY!! She bolts around all the time putting everyone else in a spin!!.She is a cement mixer and her catchphrase is "brillliiiaantt"
Muck - is a red dumper/digger, this character is rather non - discriptive!!! His catchphrase is "Muck, to the rescue".
Roley - is another favourite of mine, but this time for another reason. I do a great impression of this character and my children think is great!!!!!He is a green roller and his catchphrase is "rock and roll!!"
Travis - is Mr Pickles's tractor, and seems to be dragged into trouble by Spud quite a lot!!!!
Pilchard the cat - is Bob's cat who seems to hog a lot of the limelight, and has had numerous episodes dedicated just to her character!!!
Scruffty and humpty - are farmer Pickles's dog and prize winning pig!!!!
Mr Bently - is one of the minor characters,he is the building inspector.

Ok before i go into the actual content of the dvd, i would like to say that even though i enjoyed it, my children if coming face to face with a six foot Bob, would shit themselves. So the prospect of them being able to watch it on the telly was a much safer option for me!!!!
The case itself is bright and colourful,and features lots of pictures of the live stage show. In fairness even though it is obviously a stage show the props and the characters are very loyal to the animation, even the vehicles are detailed and spot on!!

I had a bit of a bargain with this!!! Normally retailing at around £6.99, from Asda or Woolworths, i managed to get a set of ten dvds for £11 off bid up tv.(sky digital chanel 644).
My overall view is that, even though it is a little different it was still extremely enjoyable, but in my opinion the animation is the best!!!!

Well worth your money thier is special fetures and you can even get the words on your tv so you can sing along.Most of the charters are in it. ...Although we have somewhat moved onto pastures new (Noddy and Peppa Pig) when it comes to Harry's television viewing, Bob the Builder still remains a good faithful to plonk on for him when I desperately need to get on with the dinner and Harry's trying to "help" me. We have a small collection of BobDVD'S courtesy of Harry's Nanny, and this is one he does like to watch pretty regularly, and I must say it is a fun watch, even for me who has seen it god knows how many times!
Bob the Builder is a hit children's television show currently being shown on Nick Jnr and Nick Jnr 2 throughout the day. The show is also widely available on DVD, from all of the televised series, as well as specials which were created specially for DVD such as this one, Bob's Big Plan. This DVD has three feature length specials and these are:
Christmas to Remember - This is on of the Bob the Builder specials. Bob has a twin brother called Tom who is a zoologist working in the Arctic Circle, and for the first time in years he is coming home for Christmas, which causes major excitement. The episode focus's around Bob and his crew rushing to get everything ready for Christmas, including helping prepare for a spectacular Christmas concert that is being given by Lenny and the Lazers. Bob is desperate to make Christmas perfect for his brother Tom. It's certainly a fun packed episode!

Advantages: Will keep the children entertained Disadvantages: Extras are a bit of a let down
...for children aged from about two and upwards, then the extras do not cater for the needs of the age group at all. My little one just wasn't interested. There was nothing in the extras that allowed him to be able to do anything.

Yes I would definitely recommend. Even though the extras are not the best, I didn't buy the DVD for that. I bought it for the actual episode. Although it would be nice to find a Bob the BuilderDVD in the future which has something like a game included in the extra's to give the child watching a bit more enjoyment. I live in hope.
Even though the extras were a let down, my son enjoyed the episode and it kept him entertained, therefore it did the job it was supposed to do, so would recommend.
