- Plot -
After being crushed that his girlfriend didn't agree to marry him, Jerry Robinson friend Nick decides to cheer him up by taking the two of them on a holiday, where he could find a potential new partner.
However, the manager of a local travel agents get annoyed when the Jerry and Nick mouth off about another colleague who was rude to them, who just happens to be the managers friend, so he gets his revenge by changing their holiday tickets from a singles cruise (for both sexes), to a gay cruise.
It takes a few hints after they first climb aboard before the penny finally drops and much hilarity ensues, at least thats the basic story anyway.
- Genre/Type of Movie -
This is what I'd classify a bawdy, somewhat crude at points, comedy.
- Thoughts & Opinions -
This movie is quite 'carry on' like, with the jokes being quite bawdy at times.
Cuba Gooding Jnr. I thought did quite well as a comic actor in this role, with his over exaggerated facial expressions adding to the sense of farce.
A group of Swedish models end up having to make an unscheduled stop on the cruise but the group are watched over by a manageress who's particularly strict about the girls not being oggled at or having any contact with straight people, then, as well as this, after an incident Jerry has he meets a lady who he's particularly attracted to but that isn't comfortable around straight men, so he has to try to keep up the impression that he's gay.
Its pretty predictable stuff really, the jokes aren't especially clever or witty but more crude and I suppose the term (I just made this up I think lol) sexual slapstick could be applied, though its not seriously graphic as this is a 15 rated movie, not an 18. Anyway if you know what the movies story is, then you can't complain too much I suppose as what would you expect of such a movie anyway? so yes its nothing particularly special or groundbreaking but there are some fairly funny moments, it is amusing to see them get out of their depth (so to speak) and end up in some daft situations.
I feel its also worth pointing out that Roger Moore appears in this movie, he's in a few scenes as one of the people on the cruise who takes a shines for Nick. I thought he was pretty funny in it, its almost worth watching it for those scenes alone, if you like this sort of movie then you should find those scenes quite funny.
- DVD -
The DVD only offers by way of extras, the official movie trailer. It also offers English subtitles as well as English, Spanish and Swedish language versions.
- Would I Recommend It? -
Overall I was a little disappointed that this movie was as predictable as it was, really. However it does have a few amusing scenes and Cuba I felt gave a pretty good performance in his role (one of the last scenes on the cruise will make you see him in a different light, which you should find pretty funny, put it that way!).
The movie does have a few amusing parts and I think that if you can catch it on TV (its been shown on FilmFour lately) and it sounds like something you'd enjoy, then it may be worth watching or taping and possibly rent it if you have an unlimited rental scheme but otherwise, I wouldn't go out of your way just to catch this, there are so many more interesting and funnier movies around really. This movie is one for Cuba Gooding and Roger Moore fans but perhaps not so much for others.
