parts of pop stars like Craig David and Britney Spears in lurid, latex masks, Bo' Selecta! is a brilliantly surreal take on celebrity culture. This first series (originally broadcast in 2002) features a number of cameos and guest appearances from minor celebs: Boyzone's Keith Duffy, Davina McCall, Vanessa Feltz and the hapless Christine Hamilton, one of numerous guests to be interviewed by a puppet bear played by Merrion whose feverish line of questioning invariably results in him sprouting a little erection. Another character is hauled up in a neckbrace (following an altercation with Lisa Tarbuck), but Merrion's innocent broken English can't conceal the fact that he's a psychotic sex maniac who explicitly lusts after celebs who "make me do a sex wee", keeps Craig from Big Brother locked in a cupboard and his dead mother in a wardrobe. Merrion's pop spoofs are also masterly: rather than mimic the stars, he reinvents them--Mel B and Britney Spears--as farting, hairy-chested Northerners, slobbing out on fry-up breakfasts washed down with lager and, most improbably, Michael Jackson as a cussing, jive-talking black dude à la Huggy Bear. Bo' Selecta! doesn't so much satirise celebrities as debase them, exposing their humiliating none-dimensionality by drawing them into a vortex of vulgar absurdity, not unlike Vic Reeves' Shooting Stars. Of course, they play along--they're on television. Although initially off-putting to some, once you get into Bo' Selecta! there is, as for Big Brother's Craig, no escape. On the DVD: Bo' Selecta! on disc features numerous extras, including a behind the scenes feature in which the production team discuss making the show ("like directing a squirrel on roller-skates"), deleted scenes including Gareth Gates as a Tourette's victim, which was deemed a little beyond the pale, some unfunny bloopers and a feature on the life story of "Craig David" with Kate Thornton, including an unmissable nativity scene in which the infant Craig plays Jesus. There's also a commentary, with Merrion as his stalker self watching himself with consternation (It's strange seeing yourself on TV"). It's a pity we don't get to hear from the "real" Merrion. --David Stubbs
Bo Selecta is a peculiar one. It reminds me of Spitting Image from the Eighties but a lot more controversial and a lot ruder. As Spitting Image focussed on politicians and people of power, Bo Selecta just takes the mickey out of celebrities, celebrity interviews and gossip. The programmes, when watched originally on Channel Four TV, do correspond to actual events of the celebrities in question.
The main character of the series is Avid Merrion, a ... ...to us on the adverts for Big Brother, when he kidnapped one of the chickens. (!??!) Avid lives with his mother, who lives in the cupboard and is , not meaning to offend, dead! He also lives with Craig Phillips, the winner of the original Big brother. Craig lives in the toilet closet , chained up and sat only in his underpants!! Nice!!
Avid will go out into the community harassing, yes I am safe to call it harassment!, celebrities. Although some ...

Advantages: really funny good value for money Disadvantages: could be funnier in parts
i firstly watched bo selecta series one and two when it was on channel four after just coming out, i somehow missed series three and so when saw the newest series 4 on tv i decided to buy all the series on dvd to catch up on.
some of the sketches on the dvds are hilarious and some are just ok, but i definatly think the more you watch it the more you laugh at the not so good bits.
the basic jist of bo selecta is that avid merion is a celebrity stalker, ... ...like, deleted scenes, extended scenes, bo sexier (xxxcuts), avids gallery, bloop selecta, trailers, behind the scenes featurette and this runs for 111 mins.
so basically with this box set you get 3 dvds, 14 great episodes and 168 mins of special features.
this is proably the best value for money dvd i hav bought and is well worth the purchase.
i got this of ebay for about £3 and £2 postage which is really cheep and i would suspect this is around ...

Advantages: Original, Funny, lots of variety Disadvantages: Jokes can be repetitive
Oh Bo Selecta, probably the most prolific comedy series this year. It features lots of well known characters being impersonated such as Michael Jackson (check my bad self!), Craig David (can I get a rewind), Ozzy Osbourne ( f***,f***,f***), David Blaine, Mel B, Britney Spears and many more.
Hosted late at night on channel 4, Bo Selecta was not in my list of priority TV. Even to date I still don't watch it on the box but the DVD was thrust in my ... ...member of the programme.
Bo Selector is very black humour, taking the mick out of the famous. Many of the jokes are repeated in every programme but I am sure if you laugh at it the first time you will continue to laugh.
It is rated 15 and out now in most music stores priced around £18.
Can i get a rewind??? ...

Proper Bo Review ofBo Selecta - Series 1 And 2 DVDby
nathan20
Advantages: So funny. Disadvantages: Bad in parts.
...in a double pack with bo selecta series 2 and I can definately recommend buying the both of them. This is british comedy at its best. From Michael Jackson to Marilyn Manson nobody escapes having the fun taken out of them. Ive noticed that with Bo Selecta you either love it or hate it.
The only bad thing id have to say about this dvd is that some of the sketch's are just plain not funny. Such as Avid Merrion and his fantasys for celebrities. I think ... ...that after watching this dvd Bo Selecta ranks up there with The Office, Vicar of Dibley and Im Alan Partridge as my favourite British comedys. After all the Brits are the best at it.
Id recommend if youve never seen Bo Selecta to watch it on Friday nights before buying this dvd as like I said before a lot of people dont like it but if you do watch Bo Selecta then this is definately a dvd you should buy.
There are a number of extras which were never ...

...shape or form whereas in Bo Selecta he swears every other word and sounds like he's from the bronx. It is well worth buying just to see what the characters are portrayed as but as i said before it is without a doubt the funniest sketch show ever. There are a few extra features such as Bloop Selecta (all the out takes) these are even funnier than the show just when you thought it wasn't possible. Also there is a section to select to watch just one ...
