...I had never heard of Kissing Jessica Stein when I went with a female friend to watch it at the cinema....for about 2 hours afterwards we discussed the film over cocktails and seriously debated about whether to become bisexual. Briefly, the plot is about repressed Jewish news reporter Jessica Stein who has been set up on numerous disastrous blinddates by her over-protective mother. One day a personal ad catches her eye with it's individuality and she replies, despite the fact that it is written by a woman. Helen, the advertiser, is bored of men and their clumsy attempts at seduction, and is intrigued by the idea of sleeping with a woman. When this sexually adventurous and sexually repressed pair finally meet the audience watches their hilarious attempts at building a relationship. made into a film for the big screen has also been shown on TV.
The Triffid, a plant originally bred for it's oil, became a
curiosity as a carniverous plant. It was held captive in
secure compounds as it had aquired the ability to move from
place to place, albeit slowly. It had a long lash with a
lethal sting on the end with which it attacked it's prey, soon
to be man and beast. The Triffid wasn't fussy what meat it
absorbed. The captive plants had their sting removed but not
their seeds and unknown to the people the seeds had spread far
and wide.
A brilliant and prolonged meteor shower had everyone watching
with awe. The next day all who watched woke up blind. The
remaining few became targets of the blind to be used as
sighted slaves. With no keepers the Triffids...
