Jack Johnson is a surfing obsessed filmmaker/ musician. He has a very raw down-to-earth style in making his movies, documentaries and his music. He travel around the world with his surfing friends to experience and surf spots from different locations.
"ThickerThanWater" is one the very first films he made with the help of some of his friends.. It's a surfing documentary about how he with some of the surfing icons traveled to find and surf different surfing spots around the world, some spots, they are the first ones to surf. The film shows how they toured, the transport they used, people they met, their experiences.. It's not just pure surfing in it. It's more about finding surf and their experiences.
This film has a very different feel. It's a documentary yet it feels like a real movie. There are numerous voice overs, like ...
Advantages: The journey that Mr. Johnson and the Malloys manages to take you on Disadvantages: Some of the more eclectic tones may not suit some people
Before Jack Johnson was a college radio favorite, he was chasing tides and waves in southern California and attending film school. ThickerThanWater was a little project drawn up by Johnson and his fellow surf mates, Chris and Dan Malloy, and the documentary went on to win the Video of the Year award in Surfer magazine in 2000. ThickerThanWater, which is scored by Johnson, collects 14 previously unavailable tracks by the likes of G. Love & Special Sauce, the Meters, Finley Quaye, and Johnson himself. Breezy acoustic guitars and sun-soaked harmonies are perfectly in place throughout Johnson's newer songs ("Moonshine," "The Cove," "Holes to Heaven"), highlighting what was soon to come to him ...
Advantages: funny, good family entertainment, great cast Disadvantages: not all the actors from the TV series are in it
Based on the popular 1970s TV sitcom of the same name, the film of BlessThisHouse (1972) is well worth watching, if you are a fan of this era of comedy – which I am. I would also recommend it for any Carry On fans, as there are plenty of familiar names from those films too, and it is also produced by Peter Rogers.
There are some major changes between the television and film versions, the main ones being that two of the main actors are different – Peter Butterworth taking over as the neighbour, Trevor and Robin Askwith playing Sid’s son, Mike. They are good enough, but I do miss the originals.
In the TV version, we only really follow the exploits of the two households, but in the film, the other neighbours are introduced. The main family are the Abbotts, with Sid (Sid James) and Jean (Diana Coupland) being ...
