Mel Brooks' BLAZING SADDLES was released in 1974 and, at the time of this writing, is the highest grossing western ever made; but would there be anything for old masters John Ford and Sergio Leone to worry about?
In a dusty little town where almost everybody shares the same name, trouble is a-brew. A nasty politician-of-sorts, Hedley, has his wide eyes on the town for development, but to do so he has to make the in-bred community leave. So he sends-in his boys who soon go about making the lives of the community hell. When the Sheriff is killed, Hedley convinces the governor to hire a black man as successor, knowing the community's rather jarred and ignorant view of black people will be enough to make them finally leave. For years now, it has been fairly common knowledge that Richard Bachman and Stephen King are the same man. Recently, however, it has seemed more and more that the person most reluctant to accept this is King himself. Maybe he figures that as some of his recent efforts have been a little lacklustre that no ...
Advantages: Great fun to watch Disadvantages: A bit too obscure at times
Blazing Saddles was first released in 1974 and directed by Mel Brooks. I saw this film a good few years ago and loved it the moment I saw it. It isn't a typical cowboy movie like you first expect when it begins and truly is a pleasure to watch. For this reason, this DVD was another one that I asked for at Christmas time and another that I am thankful to have received.
Blazing Saddles tells the seemingly simple story of how a railroad is bound to run right through the town of Rock Ridge and that once it does land there will be worth an absolute fortune. There is only one problem, the townsfolk already own their land and so they only thing you can do is drive them out. But how on earth do you do that? Well it's common sense really? you send in a rough and tough gang all gun's blazing but first you appoint the town with a new sheriff ...
