Blade trinity bought an amazing conclusion to a brilliant trilogy and is in my opinion one of the best vampire films ever made. I was on the edge of my seat watching this film and there wasn't a dull moment.
The Film
Story
This is where the blade trilogy fails a little bit, every movie seemed to have the same storyline dressed up in different characters and locations: The vampires are scared of blade so they try to obtain some kind of super-vampire to kill him but he ends up killing it. I.E.
- Blood God
- Nomak
- Dracula
It would also have been nice to have an ending where blade doesn't need to be saved by one of the other characters. But as with the other two films, he gets into near fatal trouble at the end.
However, having said that, this didn't bother me that much because the action more than makes up for the repeated main storyline.

Characters / Performances
- Blade: He has to be my favourite character. He is the ultimate badass yet has an, albeit burried deep, underlying soft, compassionate side, shown in his caring for whistler and his protection of humans. Wesley Snipes fits the role perfectly both visually and in his performance, which is brilliant and really portrays the character as I remember him in the comics.
- Whistler: Like Blade, he is
compassionate and caring, particularly for Blade; but also like Blade, he does a very good job of hiding it. I particularly liked this character due to the fact that he is a father figure to Blade and is the only family he has ever known and what happened to him, which I will not tell you, is very emotional. Kris Kristofferson was an excellent choice for this character and delivers the role beautifully. He seems to have a deep understanding of the character.
- The Nightstalkers: I liked the way these developed from a bunch of blade wannabes at the start of the film to ultimately the people who bought about the end of the vampires at the finale:
-Hanibal King: He seemed a bit like the film's 'guy that gets beat up alot'. I was disapointed that the film starts with him being cured and not a vampire with powers to match as he was in the comics. However, the re-designed version of this character adds some humour to the film and Ryan Reynolds delivers this humour brilliantly.
-Abigail Whistler: The out of wedlock daughter of whistler who appeared out of nowhere. Not to sure about this character and don't think she really added anything to the film, I think the writers realised this by the end so threw here a point by having here save Blade. If anything she was just a bit of visual entertainment for the male viewers of the film.
-Sommerfield: Really liked this character, she did not let her blindness hold her back and, although she seemed weak at the start, it soon became clear she was the brains behind the nightstalker's operation. She was the unsung hero of the film, sat in the lab while everyone else took the credit, and developing the virus that would ultimately kill Dracula and, supposedly, the rest of his kind. Natasha Lyonne portrays this balance of weakness and strength perfectly and really displays the emotions of the character as if she was really feeling them.
- The Vampires.
-Dracula: When I heard that dracula was going to be in blade trinity it nearly put me off, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It was nice and refreshing to see a modern, badass dracula as opposed to the cape wearing pompous arse we normally see and Dominic Purcell was the ideal choice to portray this, which he does with supream style. Throughout the film Dracula claims to be an honourable warrior but he makes use of a human shield (a baby) as well as a variety of disguises in attempts to avoid fights with or lure in blade. However, he does respect Blade at the end and saves him from the police.
-Danica Talos: I'm assuming that many of the words I wan't to use to describe this character would cause this review to be removed, so I'll go with evil and scary. She has to be the most sadistic woman ever to grace a film. Parker Posey plays this role brilliantly and really allows the twisted mind of the character to 'shine' through.
-Jarko Grimwood: Essentially big, dumb and brawny, so a wrestler is an ideal character choice. This character doesn't really have any layers at all and what you see is what you get.
All in all an impressive array of characters as well as some really good actors and actresses.

Special Effects
These were just amazing, the film obviously has a huge budget and has action scenes to compete with some of the best action films out there.
Special effects include a huge number of fight scenes including a 'clash of titans' at the end with blade vs dracula.
Dracula's shape-shifting also had a cool effect and was very smooth and realistic.
There is also alot of matrix style stuff including a bullet-dodge and impossible distance jumps.
The film was definately very heavy on action and I was definately very impressed.

Soundtrack
Erm...wow! The soundtrack to this film was amazing! Each song was so well placed and always fit the scene as well as enhancing the film. Soundeffects were also cool and accurate, all the weapons sounded realistic and the effects to the fight scenes were timed perfectly.

How does it compare to similar films?
This film takes two genres, action and horror, rolls them into one and outclasses both. It is much better than most horror movies as I tend to find alot of them too fake-looking and cheesy. It also out-classes many action films with some of it's action sequences. Definatly stands out from the croud.

How does it compare to others by the same director?
When it came out, I would say it was the best David Samuel Goyer had done so far and it still competes with some of his more recent films such as batman begins and the dark knight.

The DVD
Disk one
The film is high quality both in visual and audio, there are subtitles available as well as a widescreen theatrical feature.
5/5
Disk two
This disk is full of special features which are really interesting. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff including Costume design, Making the Weapons and Stunts. There is also a hillarious blooper reel and a very strage alternative ending.
Value for Money
Definately worth buying for the prices shown, it is an amazing film and is one of those films you will watch over and over again and there is hours of special features available.

Good review of the film and I'm sorry for the H, but for this to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in the same detail as your review of the film, not just a passing mention of them.
