We all knew this movie would come because of the huge popularity of the sequel. The final chapter of Blade has two very formidable films to follow up. Its brought to us this time by director David Goyer who is of course the writer behind the previous two blade films. Is this movie one sequel too far?

Blade Trinity begins not long after the second installment of the franchise. It appears the vampire nation are attempting to find their races very source, known to ancient races as a day-god and in mordern fables as Dracula. Resting hope that he can unlock the key to becoming daywalkers and aid them in their time of need. Targeting Blade through the human system, they frame him for the death of a familiar. Now in the custody of the FBI it seems Blade is in need of reinforcments which duely come in the form of Hannibal King and Abigail Whistler.

Blade ( Wesley Snipes ) is once again held up greatly on screen by the actor. His attitude towards the vampires is, if possible, seemingly more ruthless. His cold blooded streak shines through in perticular scenes with familars whom he seems to somehow rate lower than vampires. Snipes shows a Blade with his back against the wall and not giving a single inch. Its a wonderful portrayal and his performance through all the blade films have been consistantly brilliant.

The new additions to the vampire dusting effort are the Nightstalkers. The elite team of human vampire hunters two foremost members are Hannibal King ( Ryan Reynolds ) and Abigail Whistler ( Jessica Biel ). Now firstly fans of the first film will recall Whistlers family was killed by a vampire, thus bringing him into the life of hunting them. However Blade brings this question up for us and the quick explaination of "born out of wedlock afterwards" is enough for me. Its quick, its easy and keeps things moving along.

Jessica Biel is definately convincing as the more quiet and inward hunter. Whilst she isnt silent in the movie, shes definately more of a letting her fists do the talking kinda hero. It suits her perfectly. The nice touch is Jessicas obvious muscle improvement ( brought about through a gruelling few months of daily training ) and her ability to shoot a bow with a degree of convincing discipline. Without the element of believing shes strong enough to face a vampire this role would fall apart. However with arm muscles like that, i'll take her word for it. She wields a pretty impressive weapon called "The Arc" along with the standard bow and arrows. Somehow i cant resist mentioning how stunning the girl is and the fact she can act very well makes that a helpful bonus.

Ryan Reynolds is a tranformed man in this movie. Much like Biel he has undergone intense training to achieve the build similar to an armoured car. Looking all action in this movie as Hannibal King hes still got the humour element throughout this movie. This was a brave move from Goyer to add a character with such a great degree of humour but it seems to work. Somehow it fits in where it could have become cheesy. Thankfully it avoids that minefield. The relationship Hannibal holds with Danica Talos is wonderful, very much seeded in an ongoing hatred. The fact hes an ex-vampire makes his perticular interactions with her even better.

Whistler ( Kris Kristofferson ) plays a very brief role in this film, really only to place emphasis on Blades continually dire situation in the beginning. Just a little disappointed his parting in this franchise wasnt a bit more dramitic, but it seemed slight fitting in a way. Lets face it not everybody cant go out in a perfect blaze of glory anyhow.

One performance i loved in this film was that of Danica Talos played by Parker Posey. Shes brilliant in this role, a vampire with an added edge much like Decon Frost did in the first blade movie. Yet she seems genuinely unstable throughout and you can never tell when shes being fully serious. She was a very strong role in this film and all of her moments on screen had her on this knife-edge of reason. A very good casting choice indeed.

Triple H as the moody muscle of the vampire menace actually suited the role very well. Thankfully ( sorry WWE fans ) he didnt perform his trademark "Pedigree" move during this film. Something other wrestling stars somehow manage to do in their movie roles with cringe worthy dramatic effect. Whilst he does a few wrestling/grappling style moves they are very much in context with whats going on and understandable giving his build ( WWE fans can now rejoice ).

Now onto Dracula or Drake as hes actually called in the film. The first vampire ever he is basically the shark of the vampire world. This meaning he was born "perfect "and has had no need to evolve. The abilty to take on human forms after centuries of practice aside from his own discint human look, hes a pretty intresting prospect. However hes probably the weakest aspect of the whole film. Played by Dominic Purcell hes a fairly built character, looking like he could be one of Triple H's opponents in the wrestling ring. I didnt understand him being Drake really, he didnt look too discint in human form at all. Hes not terrible in this role dont get me wrong on this, he does have his moments but overall hes not the strong villian he should be. Compare him to Nomak and Frost and hes defintely not in that league. He doesnt spoil the film by any means, but a different choice could have made this movie something even greater. That being said I think he did the best with a role i dont think suited his style.

The directors style in this movie as regards to special effects is definately one of less means more. The computer special effects have been toned down from the second movies shall we say ( at certain times ) overenthusiastic use. Not to say it doesnt feature loads of special effects which it does but they feel as if Goyers used them only when he has to and when he does they look amazing. The ashing effect of the vampires is once again improved, looks great and the added polish to other effects is really profound. My one complaint is the lack of the sword being used in this movie until the final confrontation, but considering i didnt notice till afterwards so its a minor complaint.

Style wise Goyer has this movies looks leaning more towards the colder feel of the first movie. Hes probably learned well form being able to look at both and I think hes made the better choice with giving the feel of the first movies style. The action in this film accompinied by a soundtrack that feels more like the originals an added bonus.

Speaking of action its pretty good in this installment. Goyer adds his own elements and ideas while expanding on other aspects of action too. Its definately a strong film in the action department with Abigails bow being a notable inclusion. Fans of this aspect of the Blade movies wont be disappointed with this part.

All said and done this movie delivers a solid finale for the Blade genre. Whilst the story isnt the strongest in the world its certainly an intresting one. The fact that we see how the world outside of the war views Blade is a very new and welcomed side of these films. The film may have fallen a little short on the "Dracula" character but he still has some decent moments. However hes got the added twist of being a daywalker an element that provided one of his better scenes. The ability to take on various human guises and Drakes true form pretty damn cool. Everything else going on (such as the vampire final solution) can sometimes take him out of the equation.

The movie in the end is really about everything else thats going on with Blade, the Nightstalkers and how the hell they going to deal with this situation. Goyer doesnt produce one of the greatest films of all time, but he made one that works within the Blade world. He was bold in his casting choices, in adding a comedy element and i think its these gambles that make this film worth watching. This movie while obviously not offering complete closure gives us something that feels it could only swing that way. Its a great sequel and a worthy finale to end one of Wesley Snipes truely stand-out roles.
