I have lived in Blackpool for as long as I can remember. I wasn't born here but, I moved along with my parents and older brother when I was just 18 months old. ...machines. When you live in Blackpool you don't do all the things that holiday makers do when they come here. You are not always in the pleasure beach, up the tower, in the wax works or any other attraction Blackpool has to offer. Blackpool just
doesn't seem as appealing now I'm older, but it is home.

I do remember though enjoying the illuminations and getting excited about going to the beach and riding on a donkey. Now that I'm older Blackpool doesn't seem as exciting. I'm past all the night clubbing stage and I don't like to gamble apart from 2p machines. When you live in Blackpool you don't do all the things that holiday makers do when they come here. You are not always in the pleasure beach, up the tower, in the wax works or any other attraction Blackpool has to offer. Blackpool just
doesn't seem as appealing now I'm older, but it is home.

When I first watched "Blackpool And The Illuminations" I watched it out of curiosity. I know I live in Blackpool, but I wanted to see Blackpool from someone else's eyes so that is why I bought the DVD which has almost four hours of filming from all the attractions that bring people here year after year. If you are thinking of visiting Blackpool or have ever been then you would appreciate "Blackpool And The Illuminations" . I don't think that people who live here would appreciate it that much because it is amateurish and it does get boring at times when you have seen something over and over again.
Put aside all the people that come to Blackpool and get drunk and disorderly, forget all the gimicky "Kiss Me Quick" hats and just remember what you love about Blackpool. Blackpool just isn't about nightclubs and drinking there is a whole lot more to it. Although this DVD might be amateurish it does show that there is more to Blackpool than drink or nightclubs.

There is no disputing that "Blackpool And The Illuminations" has had time and effort put into the making of it, but it isn't edited well and I don't think they had the right equipment or expertise to make this DVD look professional.

"Blackpool And The Illuminations" does make you focus on the positive aspects of Blackpool so you can just put your feet up for a few hours, sit back and relax.

It would be good if someone could come along and remake this DVD with the correct equipment and design work. If a professional took the ideas from "Blackpool And The Illuminations" and filmed it again it would be much better. We need more DVD's like this made as it shows Blackpool in a whole new light."Blackpool And The Illuminations" was released in 2003 and lasts 240 minutes.
There are attractions shown that many tourists miss because they seem to head to the pier, but outside the Town centre there are many more attractions that many don't get to see. With this DVD you learn about the less well known attractions like the Model Village and Stanley Park. Let me just tell you that if you are buying this because you want to watch a blockbuster movie you will be very disappointed. You may be surprised by the absence of quality, but if you can overlook this then "Blackpool And The Illuminations" does offer some important information that will be valuable to visitors. The DVD does have faults, but you have to take it for what it is and if you know nothing about Blackpool or just want to know some more then you will probably benefit from watching "Blackpool And The Illuminations" . I think the amateurish element of this DVD actually adds to the whole atmosphere and it makes it funny.

It was very much like a home movie, one that you would make yourself. At times it seemed to go on too much about certain parts of Blackpool like the railway, but there is a fast forward button on your DVD player for a reason. It might have been nice to include some information about the hotels and bed and breakfast's because that is something people who do not know Blackpool need to know if they are coming to visit.

The filming wasn't perfect, at times it was laughable. It did seem a bit dated and although I enjoyed parts of "Blackpool And The Illuminations" I would have preferred them to revamp it a bit and make sure that they film it better. At times it was so amateurish that you could see the camera moving. There are a lot of little films that are about five minutes in length and have titles like "the beach", etc.
The film makers do try to include some history, but sometimes the film is plain boring. Hours of film have been edited which creates a 1950's style. It would have been better if there was some more information about the Tower and Pleasure Beach. Information such as famous people, the Pleasure Beach rides that have been and gone, clearer visual images and interviews with significant people.
As you watch "Blackpool And The Illuminations" you will see the switch on of the illuminations as they light up the Blackpool night sky. I enjoyed this when they showed you the rides on the Pleasure Beach, the sharks close up at the Sea-Life Centre and when it showed a trip to the top of the Tower.
It retails for around £7.95

Personally I wouldn't pay that amount of money on it you can purchase it cheaper on Ebay or Amazon. It is just not worth the money especially with the credit crunch. If it had been more professional I would have recommended you buy it, but it isn't worth that kind of money. If you can get it quite cheap then it is worth a watch, but if not then you would probably be better either doing a Google search on Blackpool or going to Youtube and watching some short films that other people have made of Blackpool. You would be getting exactly the same quality if not better at times and it is available for free. However if you can buy this cheaply then it has all the information you need on Blackpool and some things you don't need.
