...extreme and spoilt it. Blackball manages to find a nice balance when using this humour and manages to carry it off well. For example, Cliff comes onto the lawn in the style of Rocky entering the boxing ring for one of his matches with Ray. It is the sort of thing that could have gone terribly wrong but Kaye had developed the character well enough for it to be funny rather than plain cheesy.
Although there are very few household names in this film ... ...had heard off prior to seeing this film) the acting is surprisingly good. James Cromwell does brilliantly as the old guy set in his ways, looking down on the youth from the wrong estate. Johnny Vegas is also fantastic in this film. Although not a major character in the film he does well at breaking up the more emotional and touching parts of the film with his own brand of humour. Kaye does very well as Cliff adding a real bad boy feel to the character, ...

Advantages: Hillarious Disadvantages: Over-use of F*%k!
...Rugby,Tennis, Golf and....Lawn Bowels?
Blackball is a film about the traditional game of lawn bowels with a slight modernisation - Cliff Starkey (Paul Kaye) he is the prodigy of bowels; and he knows it.
Cliff and his Grandad, are decorators in Torquay; Grandad regulaly plays bowels at the Royal Torquay Bowels Club and Cliff had been brought up forced to watch...and play.
He played and played and got very good....very good indeed!! Cliff however ... ...Australian Bowels champions The 'Deadly' Doohan Brothers were coming over to England for one time to play the World Bowels Championships. It was then that he decided to join the Royal Torquay Bowels Club to become champion of the county; and then become selected for the England team and finally deafeat the Doohan brothers!

Advantages: Classic British Sport Comedy Disadvantages: None
The first thing that struck me about this film is the excellent cast the lead character Cliff played by Paul Kaye (Some of you may know to be Dennis Pennis) is our sporting hero and his particular sport is none other than bowls. An unlikely choice for a sporting film but you immediately warm to the rougishness. Then you have Cliffs sidekick played by Johnny Vegas. Vegas doesn't have a huge role in the film but seems to develop the story as we encounter ... ...we have star performances from James Cromwell and Bernard Cribbins Cliffs arch rival and uncle respectivley. The film is set in Torquay an obvious place for a sporting genius to emerge. One thing noticable from the start is class culture and divide with Kaye our working class bowls supreme and countering this James Cromwell the regional champion for nigh on 20 years and upper class statesman. Because we have a potential word champion on our hand ...

Advantages: offbeat british comedy full of laughs Disadvantages: witty but a little superficial
this is a heavily underrated movie about a young virtuoso at Crown-Green Bowling. Laughs are ensured all the way through and its an enjoyable watch for the first time and beyond.
The acting is believable and comedic, with actors perfectly cast. there's also a few well known faces playing camio roles, including johnny vegas (spot the rest!)
A small amount of DVD extras but does not compare with other films in the same genre in the field.
The plot ...

Advantages: Humour of Johnny Vegas Disadvantages: Lack of a worthwile storyline, Not much good.
...Sex lives of the potato men...
The mane sets the tone for the whole DVD, It is a look at the sex lives of Johnny Vegas as Blackball and mackenzie Crook in 1970s Britain and their quest to get laid.,
the film is a comical look at sex and how easy men think women are. There is a certain humor to the film, you need to like Johnny Vegas to see the funny side of it...
I really liked the film but being 18, this is my opinion on it. It is funny but it not for everyone by any means.
It is a good show, British cinema by no means excels itself here, its worth a watch and half a giggle but rent it out before you buy it.
Hope this helps. :)...
