Having had a DVD player for the last year or so now and only having 3 DVD's my hubby and I thought that it was time to expand our collection. A friend of mine told me that Tesco's have a very good offer on their DVD's at the moment where you buy any two from a selected range for £20 so we thought that we would have a look. There were none in this range that really appealed to us so we had a quick look at the chart DVD's. Among the likes of XxX and Blade 2 we wound this boxset. In the set there are 2 DVD's. The first is Big Momma's House and the second is Black Night. I have seen Big Momma's House before and loved it but had never even heard of Black Night. The set was priced at £15.97 and for 2 DVD's I thought that was excellent value for money. After reading the review of Black Night on the back of the box I decided to buy it.
The Packaging. -------------- The DVD's come in a slipcase and then they each have their own box, so if you wanted to you could take them out of the slipcase and just have them on your shelf separately. The box is predominately lime green and is kind of split down the middle vertically depicting the two films main characters on either side. On the reverse there is a separate review of each film and an explanation of the special feature contained on the discs.
The films. ----------
1) BIg Momma's House. Basically without going in to too much detail and spoiling the film for you, the story line is as follows. Martin Lawrence plays an undercover cop, Malcomn Turner who is trying to catch an escaped prisoner. He goes undercover as "Big Momma" to try and get information from the prisoner's ex girlfriend. The result, a very very funny film. The special features included on this disc are: Featurette Audio Commentary Make-up Test 2 Deleted Scenes Outtakes 2 Music Videos Trailers I have not watched these features myself so I cannot tell you what they are but the main thing is the film. If you like black comedy then you will love this.
2)Black Knight. The story behind this film, again without giving too much away, is that Martin Lawrence who plays Jamal Walker is sent back in time to the 14th century after an accident at his job in a medieval theme park. Again this film is very funny and recommended highly. The disc contains the following special features: Director's Commentary Martin on Movie Making footage Outtakes Featurette Deleted Scenes. Again I have not watched these features but when I do I will edit this op to let you know what they are like.
Overall Verdict. ---------------- For £15.97 this is an absolute bargain. Both films are brilliant and Martin Lawrence is such an amazing, multi talented actor. I cannot recommend this set enough to anyone wanting to boost their DVD collection.
