Advantages: Resonable updating of a classic tale
Disadvantages: Bad jokes, and sickening scenes

..., but things get more hostile when it becomes apparent that Witchburn's recent ex boyfriend Tyler Prince is developing a bit of a thing for newcomer Sydney. It's a fight for power as Sydney tries to get the man of her dreams, whilst trying to end a reign of fear on campus, with seven losers in toe Sydney has a challenge on her hands. Did you notice the cunning wordplay with the character names? That's because Sydney White is a modern day noughties update of the classic Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. And in fairness it's not a bad retelling of the story with seven geeks replacing dwarves. What is wrong in my eyes is that there is a clear cut off point for where this movie will have its appeal, and that goes in stark contrast from the UK certificate given for the movie. Advantages: a good way of spending some time in front of the telly

...of the book, and maybe it was because of the censorship at the time. Peter Lorre role as Joe Carlo was a person who was hoping to find the Falcon first and sell it to the highest bidder, and happy to get it at any means. While the role reflects the cultural images of the time, I felt that the role was in many ways stereotypical, that Joe was almost like a ‘woman’ in this ways and manners, and there was the racial overtones in that he was a bit sleazy and dark. Again this is in the book, but more strongly hinted at, that Joe Carlo maybe gay, but this was missing from the film, again maybe cause of the censors of the time. Sydney Greenstreet who plays Mr Gutman is the real villain of the film. His screen image lives up to the name of Mr Gutman, and there a hardness to him under a false jolly image.
