I am based in Kent and commute each day to work for a London law firm. I have 5 beautiful (and very spoilt) Birman cats and two Hamsters. I enjoy country walks, river boat trips, rummaging in markets and musical theatre.

I purchased this box set after watching the series on TV. It is orignal, witty and hilariously funny and seems to have been written by someone who has direct knowledge of running a bookshop. My parents owned a bookshop before their retirement and many of the situations in this show struck a chord. My mother often felt the need to chase out the customers with a broom although thankfully never gave into the urge, My step father was once astonished to see a woman come into the shop, take a cookery book off the shelf and remove a pad and pen from her bag. She proceeded to stand in front of my poor speechless stepfather and copy out a receipe only to replace the book when she had finished and leave the shop. The phrase from the show "time wasting bstds" definitely rang some bells here.
I think the show is set on the outskirts of London and features Dylan Moran as Bernard Black, a drunken, rude, social misfit who owns a bookshop (Black Books) where the customers are a nuisance to be put up with. His only friend is Fran (Tamsin Greig) who owns the shop next door. One day he meets Manny (Bill Bailey) and during a drunken pub session Bernard offers Manny a job as his assistant. The whole series moves on from there and follows them through a number of hilarious situations including one where Manny is left in charge for a couple of hours and sells all the books. Bernard is furious because he now has to phone the warehouse and order more.
And then there's the customer who must have real leather bound books because "everything else in his house is real" Priceless!
Or the one where he invites two religious callers into his home in an effort to delay doing his accounts.
The three main characters are comic genius and the writing is very clever - can't recommend enough. Humour is adult and not suitabe for young children or the easily offended.

It sounds like you really enjoy this series, however I have never heard of it and would like more detail about the show, where is it set, characters and general plot. If you edit please let me know and I will re-read. Kirsty xxx
