Black Beauty DVD

...I first saw this film when it just came out at the cinemas. My first impression was that it was one of the funniest films I've seen. The storyline is genius and Jack Black does not dissappoint. The story is about 2 guys who can't seem to get together with women. Jack Black then bumps into a Hypnotist in a lift who makes him see the inner beauty of a women. So basically what that means is when everybody else sees a fat, ugly women he sees a beautiful women. So you will probably guess the reaction of his best pal when he starts getting it together with a certain women he likes. ...When I first heard about this film, I immediately thought of black beauty, that series invloving a black horse. Well, wasn't I wrong, this film has nothing to do with black beauty or any horse for that matter. This film revolves around one sub-urban man's quest through his mid-life crisis. Lester Burnham (played by Kevin Spacey) is married to Carolyn (played by Annette Bening), she is very unhappy with her marriage. She is an estate agent and believes she deserves better than her husband. Lester's daughter hates both of her parents, she can't stand the friction between her parents. The plot thickens when Lester decides to make a few changes in his life. But he learns that making changes rocks the boat of life, and comes at a price. Advantages: Very intelligent observational comedy.
Disadvantages: May be a little too dark for some.

...is 'look closer' and if you do you will be rewarded. The DVD has a few extras but as with most DVD’s most of them appear to be short clips picked from existing TV shows and are not particularly interesting. The behind the scenes featurette is one of the most boring I have seen on the DVD and offers little extra insight into the film. I recommend that you spend your time reading the sleeve insert by Sam Mendes instead, it's much more interesting. The DVD's quality appears to be very crisp and the sound is noticeably better than many other DVD's I have watched. Its Anamorphic as well which is always a bonus. If you like your black comedies to be pitch black then watch this and prepare to be disturbed.... Read review
