Being a fan of Adam Sandler and the usual rubbish being on the TV, I saw this film and decided to give it a try. What a disappointment it was.
Adam plays the part of Billy Madison who's family own large hotels and are millionaires. Billy is set to inherit the fortune when his father retires. He is a fun loving man and does not take life seriously. All he has done since leaving school is sit around drinking and playing practical jokes.
Eric works with Billy's father at their company and he starts talking Billy dad around to leaving him the company instead as he says Billy will not be able to run it properly. Billy makes a discovery when talking to his dad about taking over the company, his father paid for him to graduate from high school as he would not have done so on his grades alone. Billy is upset by this and decides to make a bet with his father. He bets that he will graduate from school on his own, doing all 6 grades in 12 weeks. If Billy is successful then he will take over the company but if not the company will go to Eric.
Billy starts out at school and soon learns that it is much harder than he remembered and he also falls in love with a teacher who he later finds out is the third grade teacher.
Will Billy graduate and take over the company or will Eric be devious and scupper Billy's attempts so he can take control of the millions?
As I said at the start of this review me and my husband were very disappointed with this film. The character of Billy is just a very dumb man who does little more than mumble and try to say things in silly voices which we found very irritating. The story could have been made so much better with a stronger and less stupid person as Billy or if the voices and irritation stopped when he started back at school.
The fact that Billy and the third grade teacher became an item during the film was so unrealistic as a well educated woman would never have looked twice at this idiot.
The supporting actors all played their parts very well and they help to keep the film together. There were a few strange storylines to the supporting characters which seemed to have no real bearing on the film and seemed to have just been added to make the film longer.
The film did have a decent sound track and there were a few good songs which was about the best part of this film.
The DVD does not have any bonus material which is a bonus as we would not have taken any more time to sit and watch them. The running time of the film is 1 hour and 25 minutes which I feel is too long for such a weak story.
This film was a let down to me and my husband but may appeal to children around the 7 or 8 year old mark as Billy does do some pranks like blowing up bags of poo on peoples doorsteps which children might find amusing.
The film was produced by Robert Simonds and Directed by Tamra Davies. It was released in 2001 by Universal and has a certificate of PG.
We paid a whole £3.00 for our copy which I feel is about right and I am so glad I never paid any more.
I do not recommend this film unless you like daft and stupid characters and a film lacking a decent story.

I didn't think this movie was so bad, just need to take it for what it is, silly Adam Sandler-esque humour. Happy Gilmore is still miles funnier.
