his stand-up tours or travelogues interrupted by the occasional comedy routine. Fortunately in his World Tour of England, Ireland and Wales the two elements complement one another more often than they distract from each other. This series, which sees Connolly traversing the respective countries on his trademark motorised tricycle, is agreeable if ultimately insubstantial viewing. That Connolly is an engaging presenter is no surprise: he has, after all, constructed a successful career from an ability to get large numbers of strangers to like him. However, probably due to the here-today-gone-tomorrow logistics of touring, his insights into the places he visits tend to be fleeting and predictable: in Dublin he plays the banjo in a pub, in Belfast he visits the shipyards and the more picturesque Republican and Loyalist neighbourhoods, in London he climbs the tower at Westminster Palace that houses Big Ben, and so on. Nobody who watches this, especially, if they have any first-hand knowledge of the cities, is going to learn anything they didn't already know. As if in acknowledgement of the lack of narrative weight, there are an awful lot of lingering aerial shots of the locations. But with less money spent on helicopter hire, and more time to get to grips with the locations and, more crucially, the people who live in them, Connolly could do much better than this. On the DVD:: Billy Connolly's World Tour on disc has a clever and witty interactive menu map of the countries visited that also offers an assortment of random trivia relating to each location. The special features are a link to Connolly's official Web site, and a chance to hear some of the music from the series in isolation. --Andrew Mueller

Beards, Banjos, Bums and Britain Review ofBilly Connolly's World Tour Of England, Ireland And Wales (Wide Screen) (Box Set)by

Advantages: Brimming with interest, enthusiasm and laughs Disadvantages: Too short by far
...hysterically funny, and deliciously crude, Billy Connolly is also blessed with an infectious enthusiasm...for everything. It's this enthusiasm which leads to my only complaint about this dvd package, and thats that he is so engaging, that I could watch him forever, and 25 minutes per locale doesn't quite seem to do this project justice.
A 2 disc set featuring 8 episodes taking us from Dublin to Plymouth, finding time to squeeze in Belfast, Killarney, ... ...With childlike enthusiasm Billy drags us by the hair from location to location pumping us full of useful or completely useless information, and naturally making his own observations about the places, the people and the histories of England, Ireland and Wales. Following the format of his previous jaunts around Australia, and Scotland, his journeys are interspersed with excerpts from his stage shows, and it's typical Connolly fare. Side splittingly ...

My friend recently bought this DVD and I think it is one of the funniest DVD's I have eber watched.
It is full of jokes when he is on stage and even when he is touring around famous landmarks all around Britain. A lot can be learned from this man as his general knowledge is astounding.
He travels through England, Ireland and Wales and does a few main acts on a stage while seeing major, or minor, landmarks which are an important piece in the lands ... ...many extra features as the main part of the DVD is taken up on two DVD's as it is so long. You don't reolise it is long however because it is so funny that you will only know what time it is when the nurse beside your bed tells you what it is as your sides will be spliting.
There is not much that I can say about the main feature as it will ruin it for the people that have not yet watched it. He takes the piss out of the English even when he is in ...
