What can I say to do this DVD justice? I had no preconceived ideas when I watched Bill Bailey – Part Troll. I didn’t really know what Bill Bailey did having seen him only on Buzzcocks and then in Black Books. OK, so he’s funny, but I never knew he was a stand-up comedian! Just what have I been missing?!!! He’s the ‘thinking man’s’ comedian, a hugely refreshing change from the usual breed who get laughs through bad language and toilet humour. Not that I haven’t laughed at a good deal of that in my time, don’t get me wrong, but this is different! He’s a ‘medieval roadie’ with ‘hair like a shower ... more

After seeing one of Bill Bailey's short stand up sets on the 2005 Comic Aid DVD I decided that further investigations should be made into the strange and exciting world of his sense of humour. Part Troll is the second and latest of Bill's collection of Live DVD's, recorded at Hammersmith Apollo in front of a sell-out crowd. The whole show is an intensely funny concept performance and is performed in a fresh and enjoyable style. Like many comedians there are no jokes, as such, in the show but rather an intelligent and amusing look at the world around. The mix is perfect, there is always a ... more

Advantages Advantages Entertaining, Easy to Watch, Wide range of appeal

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some reference to drugs

This truely is the king of all stand up shows. It's really that good. The jokes are witty, original and appeal to a wide range of people due to Bill Bailey's lack of the need of swearing. There is of course the reference to drugs that is found in most of his standups but if anything he's discouraging the use by pointing out all the stupid things that cannabis smokers will do, so no worries for parents there. Bill's crazy moments when he is talking where he appears to be going off on a completely different tangent just add to the humour and once again he's supplied us with a selection of ... more

Advantages Advantages brilliant range of jokes

Disadvantages Disadvantages dunno too short i suppose

A very amusing character is Bill Bailey with a wide range of views of the world. He wil interact with his audience and the ranges of instruments he plays would amaze people just as much as the range of jokes in his repitoire The use of instruments takes the whole consept of stand up comedy to a new level and one of which is quite unique, there are a few others that do use instruments in there acts but i dont think at the same extent as Bill Bailey does. He does not do an awefull lot of facial expressions but the use of instruments very much compensates for that. and he also uses a few special ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fantastic

Disadvantages Disadvantages The encores get annoying after the first few viewings

I love this dvd, its great. In fact I find it funnier every time I watch it which makes it ten times better. The extra features are mainly focused around tea and coffee making facilities but I found these hilarious when I was drunk... but the main feature is worth the money alone. If you buy this one, I wouldnt recommend his other dvd as he reuses a lot of the jokes. Part troll is still hilarious, as Bill Bailey covers subjects such as drugs, enormous beards setting them selves alight and burning all your recipts for the finiacial year, glastonbury festival, his dislike of jokes, religion and ... more
