modernization. When his eight-year-old grandson is kidnapped by a violent gang led by the evil John Fain (Richard Boone) Jacob's estranged wife (Maureen O'Hara) enlists his help to rescue the boy. Jacob and his three sons (one of whom is portrayed by Wayne's real-life son Patrick) set out to bring the gang to justice. This late-period Wayne western is characterized by a gritty realism not present in most of his earlier works. Something of a family affair Big Jake features performances from younger sons Patrick and Ethan. The film also marks the second time Richard Boone and John Wayne worked together and the fifth - and final - time Wayne worked with Maureen O'Hara.

...were nice touches like the big Josh trying to get the small Josh's clothes on (he ended up stealing his Dad's) and the reaction of Josh's Mum when she finds the big Josh in the house.
It was a "nice" film, some scenes are really funny, some rather poignant. It's not a classic like the ever popular Forrest Gump, (a firm favourite in our house) but a pleasant way to pass a couple of hours.

It's 99 minutes long and PG rated (some scenes unsuitable for small children)
It's the story of a 12 year old boy, Josh Baskin. At a fun fair he is knocked back by a girl (you knew a woman would be the cause of all this) and wishes he was big. Next morning, he wakes up to find he is 30.
His friend, Billy, played by Jared Rushton, takes charge, helps him get to New York (it's obviously close) and find somewhere to stay. Then Josh gets a job at a toy company, and by a series of lucky coincidences, is promoted and ends up testing toys, earning loads, having his own apartment, etc. His success is due to his ability to predict which toys children will love. At this point there's another love interest for him, melting the heart of a hard bitten executive in the company, played by Elizabeth Perkins.
It was interesting to watch Josh change from being a man behaving like a child, (there were traces of Forrest Gump here!) to a man behaving like a man. There were also changes in the relationship between Josh and Billy, as Josh starts acting like a grown up dealing with a kid, rather than two kids together.
Does he choose to stay "big", or does he find a way to return to being 12? You'll have to watch it to find out!
I can't say the story was particularly credible, but it was told in a way which made it seem quite possible. There were nice touches like the big Josh trying to get the small Josh's clothes on (he ended up stealing his Dad's) and the reaction of Josh's Mum when she finds the big Josh in the house.

No one would buy this DVD for the extras. All they give you is the cinema trailer for the film lasting a little over two minutes.
Advantages: Great for christmas time, another great adventure from littlefoot & the gang Disadvantages: no extra features on DVD format
'The big freeze' Land before time DVD is an excellent one for christmas, as it gets you into the ''being cheerful, even though your bloody freezin mood. Of course, not being particularly religous I believe this is what has kept christmas going. That and, of course th huge economic value it has upon society.
For those unfamiliar with The Land Before Time it's the ultimate Dinosaur equivalent of Bambi. In that it's basic underllying theme is littlefoot becoming an orphan due to his mother being killed by a preadator. ( in this case by a 'sharp-tooth', in bambi's case, a human sports hunter ). We decided to update our home viewing collection and have recently been replacing all our favourites with the new DVD alternatives. I know you must think this would cost alot, however I've a 50% discount card for Blockbuster which has helped ...
Advantages: Lovely colours, cute dinosaurs and a heart warming tale Disadvantages: none, apart from a lack of featurettes and extra bits
quality of the graphics and animation, I'd say it was quite a let down. It's not really been improved very much from the old Video tape format. The songs and sound quality however is noticably different, either that or my speakers are much better than when we had the VHS's. But the colours still blur, which is disappointing for me as I'd expected some improvement. The kids on the other hand, adore it and don't care that it's not as digitally mastered as other animated films, for example, those in the genre of Finding Nemo and Toy Story.

the boy back, the social services say he has to wait a while for this, so Sonny has to look after Julian, this is where the film really starts to become funny, especially when Sonny decides to let the boy make up his own mind on what he wants to do, including calling himself Frankenstein.
As you can guess, by the time social services come for the boy, Sonny has grown really attached to Julian, and then faces a battle to keep him.
I found this really funny, and also quite clever, and I would recommend it to anyone needing a good laugh.
The DVD has a few extra features such as the obligatory scene and language selection, it also has a making of.. featurette, 2 music videos - Garbage and Sheryl Crow, and also one side of the DVD is for widescreen and the other for full screen, which I feel is a nice touch.
I would definately recommend ...

"...Buoyant summer comedy....Hanks is an absolute delight..." (New York Times, p.C8, 03/06/1988)
DVD Description
In Penny Marshall's charming comedy, a 13-year-old boy named Josh (David Moscow) wants, more than anything else, to be "big." And when he makes a wish in a carnival booth, his dreams come true--he becomes a 30-year-old man (Tom Hanks), though his mind and spirit remain that of a child. Since he can't really go to school looking like an adult, and his mother doesn't know him in his new guise, Josh heads with his pal Billy (Jared Rushton) to New York, where they proceed to goof off, play around, and act like the kids they are. But when Billy leaves, Josh is subjected to the encroaching needs and responsibilities of adulthood, and he quickly discovers both the pleasures and the problems of being grown-up.
