After successfully setting the house up with the surveillance system and seeing a whole lotta flesh they settle back to watch. Unfortunately Big Momma decides to take a vacation so what do our hapless heroes do when the girl their supposed to watch rings up to ask if she can stay. Fortunately Lawrence's character is an expert make-up artist and manages to make a full body suit to resemble Big Momma. The film then follows his adventures as he poses as Big Momma, tries to get a confession out of the girl and gradually falls in love with her (surprise surprise!)
I'm not sure what it is with black comedians wanting to put on lots of prosthetic make-up and pretend to be someone else (Eddie Murphy, Lenny Henry) but it is starting to wear a little thin now. Moments in the film are funny (I have no wish to see that much flesh ever again in one go!!) but most of it is fairly average. I was surprised it got a cinema release and glad that I didn't go and see it.
Worth watching once on a rainy afternoon on video - the kids'll love the lavatorial humour in it, but I'm afraid it doesn't really do much to inspire. The film was obviously made around Martin Lawrence (much like Big Momma) in an effort to promote him and his type of humour.
Go and see Blue Streak a much better Martin Lawrence film - and if you're into prosthetics see Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor II which is much funnier.

Big Momma's House stars Martin Lawrence as a detective on the trail of a viscious bank robber and some missing money. His girlfriend has escaped to a place she used to live - Big Momma's House where she feels she will be safe but they think that he will try to find her there - or that she is involved and decide to keep her under surveillance. However, Momma goes away before she turns up and Lawrence - who is a master of disguise as well obviously, ... ...hiding in the toilet of Big Momma's house when nature calls...or rather bellows. If that wasn't bad enough, she then decides to have a shower...and this is one biiiiiig momma...I almost died laughing! So then...is that the extent of the humour here - fat woman on the toilet, fat woman's big butt waving around the screen...that sort of thing? Well yes actually. The rest of the movie's gags are basically that Lawrence behaves like a young(ish) black ...

...box office hit. Big Momma's House - starring bug eyed Martin Lawrence, who I've not seen in anything else but the relatively slight Blue Streak - is a pretty run of the mill example of the comedy cop genre and even some excellent make up and latex masks which for once are actually realistic can't change that. Lawrence plays a cop whose thing is masquerading and he and his partner are trying to catch up with an escaped felon who is on the run and ... ...with her son, seeking out Big Momma in the Deep South. Lawrence and Co follow here and set up surveillance over the road. When the said Big Momma herself goes walkies for a while they see their chance and set Lawrence up as a fake version of the larger than life typical American Negro Mama to await the arrival of Shari. A trifle this on the plot front I think you'll agree and I guess under normal circumstances there'd be no way that anyone would ...

Make no mistake – BIG MOMMAS HOUSE is all about Martin Lawrence wearing large old lady drag. The plot is just a side issue. This film is merely a vehicle for Lawrence’s own wacky humour, comic timing and manic energy. Saying that, it succeeds – it is pretty FUNNY. In many ways it’s remininscent of Eddie Murphy’s dressing up antics in the Nutty Professor series. Anyway, Lawrence is a highly talented comedian in his own ... ...and prosthetics as the elderly Big Momma. Since Big Momma is really a young man wearing a fat suit, a lot of the humour derives from just that - seeing what appears to be a heavyset old lady doing un-old-lady-like things. The movie gets off to a rather slow and slightly confusing start...more poor gangster flick then comedy..and the kids and I were left guessing who was who and how they were all connected.... Of course our lack of immediate comprehension could be something to do with the fact that the kids had just arrived back from a trip to New York and were suffering from jetlag, or even an overdose of pizza, but as I ... ...are sent to stake out Big Momma's house as they suspect that this is where baddie Lester (boyfriend of Big Momma's niece Sherry) is headed. Big momma’s house- Well it’s definitely a laugh and fun to watch, although it depends if you can get into it. Basically it’s a mixture of nutty professor, Mrs doubtfire and some cop movie. Without giving away the story too much a explain a little:
It starts slow and boring, basically a bunch of gangsters and Martin Lawrence dressed as a freaky Chinese dude. Anyway, after about five boring minutes of watching a dog fight, a bit ... ...are sent to stake out Big Momma's house as they suspect that this is where baddie Lester (boyfriend of Big Momma's niece Sherry) is headed. Maybe we missed it, or perhaps this part of the storyline is weak, but this never quite seemed to be adequately explained. Anyway, Big Momma just happens to be out of town when Sherry calls, so Malcolm steps into the breach (and the breeches!) so as not to lose the chance of getting Lester and his girlfriend ...

Yes?.the ending is sweet as he helps a family com together happily. O yeh ? when his wife finds out she isn't too happy but respects that he was doing a job to help.
I loved this film as it had a great story, sweet ending and was so funny.
This DVD is 9/10 as it was exciting and unpredictable.

as he forgets the bra he has to wear as big mama. IT IS BIG, so she was really surprised, but sorts of gets away with it.
His funny experience continues when big mama is wearing a swimming suit and to me that wasn't a pretty sight. But when he realises a problem Big Mama turns into superwoman and goes after the person with a skateboard and saves the day.
The ending is great as the action really begins when the girl calls him from his housekeeping job and asks for his help....
I loved this film as it had a great story, sweet ending and was so funny.
This DVD is 9/10 as it was exciting and unpredictable.
