I had just purchased my DVD player (which features in some other opinions) and desperatly wanted somrthing to watch on it. I looked at the selection of movies then moved onto the comedy section, as a DVD wasn't that common back then there wasn't much of a selection. However I spotted Big Daddy and as I liked Happy Gilmore so much I decided to purchase this particular film. This could possibly be the best decision I have ever made regarding my entertainment system.
Adam Sandler plays Sonny Cofax, a man that hasn't exactly made the most of his life. He lives with his flatmate and has a one night a week job at a toll booth. He is childish and wastes his money on just about anthing he see's. His life seems to be going pretty smoothly until his flatmate decides to go to Japan. Shortly after his departure a young boy turns up at the flat, he claims to be his son. Sonny tells him and he is fully prepared to come home, but Sonny won't let him! He says he will take care of it, but as he soon finds out the adoption office is closed because of a holiday.
Sonny has to take care of the little nipper for a whole day! He takes him to watch the roller-bladers fall down in the park which makes for some humerous moments, then on to a bar to watch a football game. The next day Sonny decides that he likes having the little one around and decides to keep him. Sandler soon finds out how hard it is to keep a child when Julian starts to act a little more like a 5 year old. He thinks his girlfriend will know how to handle this but to his suprise she has left him for a man that can't be youger than 65!
A sub-plot of Sonny falling in love is thrown in with him using the child to his advantage. The comedy aspect is slightly erased as the film comes to a head with the adoption board "re-possesing" his child and hoding a big court case. The ending is a happy one however and Sonny finally has a little baby of his own.
This film has its funny points but also has a more serious side that will have you feeling sorry for some characters while laughing at others. All the regular Happy-Madison cast are in there including Rob Shneider as the delivery guy.
If you haven't seen this film and are a fan of Sandler then go and get it. Alternatively if you are just in search of a good laugh and a decent storyline with it get this. Either way Big Daddy is one of A.S finest films and is definatly worth a look.
