Big Daddy
I bet if I asked you, who’s Adam Sandler? Then the answer from 99% of you would be, Adam who? For this reason he is one of the film industries best kept assets.
For all those who do not know who he is, he was the funny if yet geeky bloke in ‘The Waterboy’, and the title role in ‘The Wedding Singer’. Big Daddy stars Sandler as thirty two year old twelve years old, Sonny Koufax. He has failed at most things in his life due to shear laziness, and when his girlfriend leaves him for an older man (much older as the case turns out), he has to do something big to prove to her that he is ready for responsibility.
When five year old, Julian (Cole Sprose, Dylan Sprose) is dropped into his lap, by Julian’s dieing mother, who was a one night stand of his flat mate currently in China, then he has the perfect opportunity to prove to his ex that he has the qualities to be a responsible adult.
Soon Sonny realises that there is more to being a daddy than he first anticipated, and tries to off load the kid on the local social services. On discovering that Julian, later to be called Frankenstein, would be put into an orphanage until a suitable foster home is found them he has a strike of conscience.
Soon the pair become more like brothers than father and son, and they get up to a lot of hilarious things including the Kangaroo song, Scuba Steve (Scuba Sam’s dad) trying to persuade Frankenstein to take a bath when he becomes the smelly kid in his class. As well as Sonny realising, that he has a young child at his disposal to get women, and cheep food at the supermarket.
All is well until the Social Department realise that Sonny has obtained custody for Julian under false pretences, and he is taken away from Sonny. Along with his friends, and his new girlfriend, who he acquired at the park along with Julian’s help he tries to avoid detention by the law and get Julian back. All ends fairly well for Julian and Sonny, but I wont spoil the ending by telling you how this happens.
The film is incredibly funny and is packed full of hilarious one liner’s, funny sketches and comical characters, such as the drunk at the bar and the homeless guy at McDonalds (Tim Roth).
All’s well that ends well, and this film is defiantly worth looking up, if your in need of a comical pick me up.
