Sandler is a well-known comic actor, with more than 30 films behind him. His first film, as far as I can find out, was Going Overboard back in 1989, meaning that his career has now spanned three decades, which I think is an achievement regardless of your feelings about him. I say regardless of your feelings as I know from experience that he's a real Marmite man, some love him, others hate him. He's criticised for playing the same part time after time, but if it works then why not? His films are still huge draws for the public. For a while I was one of the hate-him school, but once I found out that he has co-written and co-produced a huge number of his films I began to change my mind. I now find myself thinking that he;s a very shrewd guy, he's found a formula that most definitely works, and he's cashed in on it. Even without being one of Sandler's biggest fans, I always enjoyed some of his films, others I just found too silly. The current review is of Big Daddy.

I'd say that if you have a child of 10 who wants to watch the film and you feel that they are generally mature, this film shouldn't offend or upset them.
The cast of this film is quite extensive, but the key characters, and the big name cameo are: Sonny Koufax – Adam Sandler Julian 'Frankenstein' McGrath – Cole Sprouse, Dylan Sprouse (I don't know if these are twin boiys who shared the part, but that's the only reason I can think of for there to be two boys for one character) Delivery Guy – Rob Scneider Layla Maloney – Joey Lauren Adams Corrine Maloney – Leslie Mann Homeless Guy – Steve Buscemi

The running time of this film is about 90 minutes. It's a fairly short film, but I don't feel that anything has been unnecessarily cut or glossed over to achieve this. I tend to prefer my films to be short, so this is an ideal length for me.
Sonny is thirty-something. He works one day a week, and for the rest of the time he lives off the compensation he won when his foot was run over. He has no responsibilities, no real ambitions and is very happy with life... That is until his girlfriend decides that she wants a relationship with a future and goes away for a few days to think things through. When Sonny's doorbell goes and a five year old boy, supposedly the love child of Sonny's housemate, is left there, Sonny thinks he's found the ideal way to convince his girlfriend that he's mature, responsible and that this will be the perfect way to impress her. She's not impressed, and he's left with a kid. Can Sonny, a big kid himself, really cope with a real child? Can the child cope with him? And will the squirrel and the mouse ever kiss? (it's an inside joke, watch to find out).
I really like the soundtrack to this film, and clearly so do a lot of people as it won a BMI Film Music Award. It includes: (try Wikipedia for a much more complete list of the soundtrack, I used the official soundtrack to jog my memory for this, but there's loads more on Wikipedia) -Sheryl Crowe covering Sweet Child of Mine -Styx's Babe -Yvonne Elliman's If I can't have you -Everlast Only Love can Break Your Heart -Garbage When I Grow Up
There aren't many extras on this DVD, but I'm not a big fan of them so I wasn't disappointed. The extras that are there are: -Featurette – I've not watched this, if I remember correctly I tried but it wouldn't run in my player (which is an old and fairly temperamental one, to the extent that it will play a disc then half way through decide there is no disc, so this isn't definitely an issue) -Filmographies – these are quite interesting fact files about the main actors, including date of birth, brief film history and so on -Music videos -Trailers
The film can be viewed in either English or German, with subtitles in 15 languages.
There are some really funny moments in this film, not a huge number of what I'd call laugh-out-loud moments, but a lot of giggles and loads of smiles. There are also a lot of aww moments, both because the kid is cute and because there are some genuinely touching scenes.
I think that Sandler acts his part well, he's certainly a reasonably believable character, and the character is very consistent. This is true of all the actors, they are consistent and play their parts well.
If you're an extra lover, then this disc may be a disappointment, but if you're just in the mood for a low-concentration, easy-watching highly enjoyable film, give this a go.
My copy cost me £3 from HMV earlier on this year. I've seen the film for £3.98 new on Amazon, 99p and up (plus p&p) used; on e-bay from £3.88. I really don't think this is a bad price for a DVD, and I'm sure that if you shop around you can get it for less.

The Film
--------
Sonny Koufax is a wacky guy who can't seem to do anything right, mainly due to his ability to screw everything up for other people. Sonny (played by Adam Sandler, from The Wedding Singer fame) is, at first desperate to hold on to his girlfriend, who gets really fed up with him acting like a little kid all the time. At the same time a kid arrives on Sonny's doorstep, Julian - the alleged son of Koufax's friend, and Sonny has an ... ...he can be responsible. Unfortunately for him though, his girlfriend isn't interested and he ends up alone and having to look after a kid with no previous experience and a certain lack of maternal instinct! His first problem is Julian's bedwetting, which he solves by laying newspaper on the bed, and then Julian's spilling milk, which he also solves by laying down newspaper (not exactly someone you'd invite to babysit then)
The interaction between ...

The story is typically American and blends Jerry Maguire with Dumb and Dumber. Our hero, Sonny Koufax, is played by Adam Sandler – a well know comedy genius famous for Saturday night live and hit films such as The Wedding Singer and Waterboy. As per usual Sandler plays a social misfit but this time his character is a misfit by choice. Mr Koufax senior is a very well respected lawyer and Sonny has the potential to emulate his father. Sonny, ... ...work after a legal settlement won him several hundred thousand bucks but in reality he could earn that in a year if he put his mind to it.
Sonny is happy and content in his responsibility free life – well he is until his girlfriend (Vanessa) dumps him. She decides that she needs more from a relationship and from her man – Sonny’s irresponsibility simply doesn’t cut it on the man front! But then through several strange twists ...

...a selection. However I spotted Big Daddy and as I liked Happy Gilmore so much I decided to purchase this particular film. This could possibly be the best decision I have ever made regarding my entertainment system. Adam Sandler plays Sonny Cofax, a man that hasn't exactly made the most of his life. He lives with his flatmate and has a one night a week job at a toll booth. He is childish and wastes his money on just about anthing he see's. His life ... ...his child and hoding a big court case. The ending is a happy one however and Sonny finally has a little baby of his own. This film has its funny points but also has a more serious side that will have you feeling sorry for some characters while laughing at others. All the regular Happy-Madison cast are in there including Rob Shneider as the delivery guy.
If you haven't seen this film and are a fan of Sandler then go and get it. Alternatively if you ...

This is a fantastic comedy and one that many of you will enjoy if you haven’t watched it. It’s a really good family film to watch. Perfect for night in. It stars Sonny played by Adam Sandler, he also starred in the Wedding Singer. He’s this ‘laid back type of guy’ and has been dumped by his girlfriend for a more responsible guy.
But, when a five year old boy-Julian arrives on his doorstep he can prove everyone wrong. ... ...a child...
How the boy gets to Sonny?…..well long story but the mother who’s very ill close to her death in fact had a one night stand with Sonny’s flat mate but he’s away and Sonny get’s the responsibility. So, there’s two kids-one literally and one at heart….and it’s time for fun. The comedy starts and Sonny realises the joys of parenthood. Some excellent moments when he tries to toilet train the ...

Thirty-two-year-old Sonny Koufax (Sandler) has spent his whole life avoiding responsibility. But when his girlfriend dumps him for an older man, he's got to find a way to prove he's ready to grow up. In a last-ditch attempt to impress her he adopts a 5-year-old, but she's not impressed and he can't return the kid!
This film also contains very funny moments, my favourite parts involved both Sonny and "Frankenstein" throwing sticks into the paths of on-coming skaters.
I really enjoyed these films, Adam Sandler is one of those actors you could just watch over and over again, because his style is so refreshing it avoids the pitfalls of conventional comedy (such as repitition and gradual boredom).
As I have already mentioned ...
Advantages: 3 Good Films on 3 Discs Disadvantages: None
I love Adam Sandler films so I was really pleased to have received this as a gift. This boxed set contains 3 of his films on 3 separate DVDs, The Longest Yard, BigDaddy and Click.
The weakest film of the bunch, in my opinion is The Longest Yard. It's not a bad film by any means and worth watching, but, equally, it's not one of Sandler's best films. The film is a remake of a film starring Vinnie Jones. Sandler plays an ex (American) football player who gets arrested for drunken behaviour. He gets sentenced and ends up in prison. After some 'persuasion' from the warden, he trains up the inmates to play football, against the guards, and, basically, to allow them to get some revenge on the guards that treat them like dirt. This film also stars Chris Rock and Burt Reynolds.
BigDaddy is a fairly good film. Sandler's character basically ...
Advantages: Takes you back down memory lane Disadvantages: Vince McMahon's superstars have done so much for wrestling these guys look really bad
But no thanks to be honest. Anyone who remembers pre-WWF wrestling in the UK on television is likely to be thinking of World of Sport wrestling on ITV. This DVD captures the best of that era. But after the last 15 years of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin to name just a few, the best of the ITV era is nothing to brag about.
With a few exceptions. The Dynamite Kid and William Regal appeared in ITV's wrestling. Even nWo founding member Scott Hall made a handful of appearances.
But this DVD concentrates on the likes of BigDaddy and Giant Haystacks. Big brutes of men who liked to throw their weight around. Don't expect any Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero (may he rest peacefully) wrestling classics, just big mean men in tights.
