Bewitched, bothered or bewildered?
Review of Bewitched DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Briefly entertaining
Disadvantages: Annoying performances, poor script and storyline

...in a film remake of Bewitched as Darrin, preferably without his co-star, the lovely Samantha, having much of a role at all. To this end, he insists on a co-star with the same kind of nose-wiggle as the original Samantha, but after hundreds of interviews, he is not content with anyone...until he runs into Isabel in a book shop. Persuading Isabel, who is really a witch trying to be an ordinary mortal, to take on the role is fairly easy and things initially ...
...starts using spells to get things her own way...falling in love with Jack along the way. Will Jack find out the truth? If so, how will he take the news? Nicole Kidman is Isabel. I have a lot of admiration for her as an actress; she has proven herself time and time again (in my opinion) in films such as The Hours, The Others and Moulin Rouge. However, here, she has made a mistake; I don't really understand why she decided to take on the role in the ... Read review

There's nothing bewitching about this!
Review of Bewitched DVD by pink_champagne

Advantages: Uhm......
Disadvantages: Everything!

...For anyone who doesn't know, Bewitched was a TV series which ran from 1964-1972. Elizabeth Montgomery played Samantha - a witch who would cast spells by wiggling her nose, who married a mortal Darrin. Jack Wyatt (played by Will Ferrell) is a famous actor, with a hugely inflated ego. He is starring as Darrin in a remake of the TV series bewitched, and decides to cast an unknown actress as Samantha, so that all the focus will be on him. While out shopping ...
...instantly decides that she is the one for the film, and tries to persuade her to act with him. What Jack doesn't know, is that Isabel is actually a real life witch, who has recently decided to live a mortal life without magic. Jack persuades the naïve Isabel to star in the TV series, but how long before she realises that he is just using her? And what will happen when she realises she has feelings for him? I'll leave it there, as I wouldn't want ... Read review

Was anyone Bewitched By it?
Review of Bewitched DVD by bmthkatie

Advantages: It made me Exercise!
Disadvantages: Boring and not funny!

I never watched Bewitched when it was on the television so really this was the first time I come across it. I mean don't get me wrong I knew the gist of the story but I can't remember any of the characters or anything. I went to see this with my friend at the cinema, my friend walked out thinking it was amazing and pretty funny whereas I thought it was a load of rubbish. I'd been wanting to see it again, I mean it is the kind of film which I would ...
...a sort of episode of Bewitched instead. Have Kidman playing Samantha and Ferrell as Darrin. Its true I think this would of been more successful and a lot more funny. I simply think they tried to do something completely different but didn't spend enough time to make sure it was done well. You don't get the likeability of a character in this film. To be honest they both just annoyed me. The characters just didn't seem to gel at all. Kidman was just ... Read review

Definitely Not Magical in Any Way.
Review of Bewitched DVD by katygriff

Advantages: Good Cast.
Disadvantages: Everything Else.

...making a film version of Bewitched I could not wait because I was a huge fan of the series. Finding out the starring cast of Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell I was thinking, wow Hollywood have got this right what a great cast and a great idea to do a film based on the series. Then I found out it was not just an extended episode of the series which disappointed me a little and then I heard such awful reviews the whole time it was out in the cinema. ...
...revamping the classic TV show Bewitched and making it modern with him as the starring lead as Darrin but he is having problems finding a woman to play the much loved Samantha who can do the infamous nose wiggle. Jack spots Isabel and is soon mesmerized by the fact that she is wiggling her nose. He asks her to star in the TV show with him and as she is looking for a job she agrees and who better to play a witch than somebody who already is one. Isabel ... Read review

Bewitched into Bordeom
Review of Bewitched DVD by SexySOS

Advantages: It only lasted 1hr 38 mins
Disadvantages: I had to watch it

...to be nothing but the bewitched backdrop with all the key aspects that made the show removed. There was no sparkle no pizzazz and most of all no magic in my eyes, it just seemed like they had made a laughing stock of the show and all that it had ever represented. Nicole Kidman who played Isabel Bigelow/Samantha and Will Ferrell who played Jack Wyatt/Darrin must have hidden in shame knowing that they had anything to do with this cult series massacre ...
...they actually played the original Bewitched theme tune - da da da da .... Now that is bewitching. Other Data Run time = 1 Hr 38 mins Languages = English, Hindi Certificate = PG Overall I have heard nothing but slatings of this film and I am sorry that I could not find anything to combat these. There were A list actors set up for this film, funding in place, but the story let it down which meant everything else was let down in ... Read review

DVD Description

Director Nora Ephron (SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, YOU'VE GOT MAIL) breathes new life into the classic television show BEWITCHED in this romantic comedy of the same name. Movie star Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) had it all until he made a few bad films and his wife left him. Now, the washed up star is slated to play Darrin in a remake of the 1960s sitcom about a mortal man who unknowingly marries a beautiful, good-hearted witch. Determined to resuscitate his career, Jack and his agent, Richie (Jason Schwartzman), demand that an unknown be cast as the witch, Samantha, in order to maximise his screen time and star power. After an exhaustive search for the right actress and the perfect nose wiggle Jack spots Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman) in a book store and is convinced that she can be the new Samantha. And right he is; Isabel really is a witch who is determined to try life and hopefully love without magic, much to the chagrin of her debonair warlock father, Nigel (Michael Caine). Immediately drawn to Jack, Isabel follows her heart and takes the role only to discover that he has no plan to share the spotlight with her, and can also be a big jerk. Can Isabel refrain from using magic to put Jack in his place and win his love? And how will Jack react when he learns Isabel's secret? More interesting than a standard remake, the screenplay by Ephron and her sister Delia nicely weaves in the characters and basic plot of the original television series while developing a completely new story and characters. Shirley MacLaine stars as a legendary actress who plays Samantha's mother, Endora, in the new television show and just may have a few secrets of her own. Steve Carell has an amusing turn as Uncle Arthur, a character originally played by comedian Paul Lynde.
