Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer New Attitude by Patti LaBelle Don't Get Stopped in Beverly Hills by Shalamar Do You Really (Want My Love?) by Junior Emergency by Rockie Robbins Neutron Dance by Pointer Sisters The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey Gratitude by Danny Elfman Stir It Up by Patti LaBelle Rock & Roll Me Again by The System **IN CONCLUSION**
A fine movie with a fast paced script, some good acting and a slither of romance… Eddie Murphy does his cheeky smile at every opportunity to establish the character of Axel Foley, the renegade cop with a lust for action.
The story is your standard "out of control cop seeks revenge for the death of his brother/lover/friend" type movie but that doesn't spoil the fact that this one is well worth watching for the comical genius of Murphy and the weird sense of humour coming from Rosewood, as the Sensible cop with a hidden desire for action.
Murphy seems to be in his element as the cheeky chappie with a gun and a badge… then combining him with the unique characteristics of Rosewood and Taggert you know your in for a bit of a treat… Murphy's great use with a bunch of bananas, (supplied by comedian Damon Wayans as a rather camp waiter) to disable a police car is pure genius…
The action and stunts are not too over the top, except for a few scenes involving people being thrown through glass windows without a scratch appearing, but this is standard for any of these types of films so you expect these sort of scenes…
The few fighting scenes are well choreographed and the car chases are comically good…
Would I recommend this….?
Yes I would… without a doubt… (but only if you like Eddie Murphy's style)
Even if you don't really like these action/thrills/comedy type movies.. The fast talking Eddie Murphy really gives his all for this and the outcome is a well made and very watchable film….
It does have everything a good movie needs… the thrills, the action, the car chase, the fighting and the little bit of romance, pleasing all who watch it.And don't forget the theme tune… it will be drumming through your mind for ever… and probably as a tacky ring tone on many peoples mobile phones…

Advantages: Eddie Murphy at his wise cracking best, Great music Disadvantages: Not much
This was the big launch of EDDIE MURPHY – ACTION HERO. Well not quite, more like Wise–Cracking, that head cracking. Anyway it was the launch of Murphy as a big time star and his character Axel Foley went on to two more sequels of this fast moving comedy action cop drama.
Basically Foley is based in Detroit and he comes to LA to help find out who killed his pal. He is teamed up with two of Beverley Hills’ ‘finest’ - ... ...The two of them hardly look like Dirty Harry – more like Curly and Larry from the Three Stooges. Taggert looks like he’d be more at home at a Sandwich bar than anywhere else and Rosewood is so dopey he makes Del Boy’s bruv Rodney look like a brain surgeon!
He is supposed to be helping/observing with a drugs ring case, but oh no, Axel is no observer. He goes for glory and his sidekicks are along for the ride. He adopts a rather ...

Advantages: Very good, amusing, actioneer. Disadvantages: Bit dated now
Axel Fooley, or Eddie Murphy was lucky to be given this opportunity. The plot is great, the humour great and the action suitable. It is the film that made his career. The first sequel was justified and by all standards was good, but number 3 was absolute pants.
Taggart and Rosewood are the pivotal support actors that round the film off very well. The Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer partnership went from strength to strength after this film and ...

This was a great film. Who doesn't remember the hit theme tune "Axel F" from the eighties? Eddie Murphy is brilliant in this movie, and Judge Reinhold is superb as his naive sidekick, Detective Billy Rosewood. Murphy is outrageous in BHC, and the laughs come thick and fast. Watch this if you like plenty of visual gags, such as the banana stakeout gag, and if you like watching Eddie Murphy at his best. Although there isn't any real message behind ...

So, he is followed by two detectives to make sure he is not doing any investigating. ... ...Eventually, he convinces them to help making a powerful threesome of detectives working to solve the murder. From the very first scene to the last, this movie is packed with action, wit, and hilarious comedy. You will be amazed by watching Axel Foley work. "...Murphy doing what he does best: playing the shrewdest, hippest, fastest-talking underdog in a rich man's world....He wins at every turn." (New York Times, p.C25, 05/12/1984)
DVD Description
Eddie Murphy rose to stardom as Axel Foley, a streetwise and brash young Detroit cop in this comic blockbuster that combined frenetic action, hysterical rough-edged comedy, and a chart-topping rock & roll soundtrack. When his best friend is murdered, Axel heads off to Beverly Hills in an effort to track down the killer. The resulting culture shock is only one of his difficulties; often operating just outside the law in his determination to capture the murderer, he finds himself repeatedly clashing with the local authorities as well as his supervisor back home. With the help of Beverly Hills detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and his partner, Sergeant Taggart (John Ashton), Axel is able to track down the killer, who turns out to be Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), a wealthy, powerful, and respected member of the California community. It's up to Axel to outsmart the evil criminal, who is protected inside his fortresslike mansion. Featuring hysterical supporting performances from Bronson Pinchot as Serge--an effeminate, thickly accented art gallery clerk--and comedian Damon Wayans, among others, the film is one of the funniest comedies of the 1980s.
