I like so many people made a new years resolution to do more excersise and at the same time there was a lot of programes on TV about the best diets and also the best excersise DVDs/Videos and to my suprise Beverly Callards was either the winner or the she came second.
I'm a BIG BIG woman my diet is actually quite good and I run a house chase after 2 kids and have my own little business but I'm still the size of a small barn, what was missing was some serious intensive excersise so I decided to splash out some hard earned cash and buy her DVD.
I'll be honest it sat on top of the window sil for 2 weeks before I could finally dredge up enough enthusiasm and energy to actual try it out and I wish I had started sooner. This DVD is broken down to 3, 20 minute workouts. You start out with a 8 minute warm up then 12 minutes of excersise. A lot of it is well known and used excersises but thats because they are effective and just cannot be improved. After your body has gotten over the shock
of moving again you can use wrist and ankle weights if you want (going to get some soon). The music was fine and the other women in the DVD were fit enough to look at but not scary super women. Her voice (Beverly) is not irritating and she does not go on and on and on especially with those artifical yips and Whoo Hoo's that drive me crazy.
Now as I've mentioned I am a BIG BIG woman I also have the grace of a Hippo but although there was plently of movement not so much that you need floor space the size of a dance hall or furniture that won't break to easily when I bang into it but this one is all realtively in the same area. I have a confession that with some of the more "dancy" moves I actually felt I had a bit of rhythm but then I caught my reflection in the mirror and realised it was all in my head but an I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've been doing 1 20 minute session a day for just 5 days now and I can already feel the difference. I could actually bend over in my jeans and not feel as though I was being Garrotted around the waist. I'm NOT going to measure myself till Monday morning as I think it's counter productive but I'll not be suprised if there is a difference even if it is just a small one.
Having had time since I wrote this review to read others comments (all good) I have realised that I've missed a couple of important things out.
Price wise it's hard to pin down. I bought mine from an on-line CD/DVD seller and it only cost me £6.49 and that included the postage but I think that you can pay almost £10 and thats not inc delivery so the lesson is Shop around. Mind you even if I had paid twice the price I'd still have considered it a bargain.
More detail about the excercises. After the warm up period you get a complete mix of arm bends leg bends, stretching. It's hard to describe excersise but I was worried that the excersises would just get harder and harder untill I would reach a point when I'd have to stop but she seems to have understood this and just when you think you cannot bend it again she takes it back a step allowing you a few minutes to stretch and release any tension that may have built up in your muscles. She also seems to have come to realise that we have all been brought up doing excercises to the count of 10 so we have 10 lunges, 10 squats, 10 reaches etc. This is actually mentally draining. She goes upto the count of 8 which seems to have removed that really annoying threshold. Sometimes of course you get the cheery "lets do another 4 or 8" and your heart sinks and your muscles tremble but on the whole everything is to 8.
This is also a programe that you can use for a long time. Once you've had some practice and built up your enegry and strength then you can start to add weights. Then if you want you can do 1 of the 20 min plan and the move on to doing 2 of them in one go. Thats what I certainly plan to do.
Finally I'm a 42 year old very over weight woman and I find that this DVD offers you achievable goals. I find that after doing a session I'm a little bit sweaty but stretched and relaxed and feeling good.

Great review. I've been wondering about this one, as I already have Beverly Callards first two - Real Results and Rapid results and they're both excellent

good on you for keeping up with your new years resolutions... mine got broken last week! I'd probably get as far as buying one and it would never make the DVD player! ~ Clare xx
