Advantages: Clever story, well performed. Disadvantages: Its involved so watch it on a clear head!
...Its a clever title too, Best LAID plans, which points to what appears to be the heart of the problem, when a small town man gets involved in a drugs heist that goes wrong. Without giving too much away, there is what I thought was a great twist at the end and great performances from the stars too, especially Reese and Alessandro. Its quite a heavy film to follow so watch it on a clear head and when you're in a mood to get really engrossed in the story. ... ...of the film moves backwards and forwards it's slick and well shot with some arty moments. The soundtrack is one to really listen out for too. The original score is a Craig Armstrong (moulin rouge, romeo and juliet, Plunkett and Macleane)masterpiece and there are also tunes on there from the likes of eagle eye and neneh cherry. Its a dark despairing film and just when you think things can't get any worse for the characters, they do.... but they have ...

This Mike Barker (TV documentaries and episodes of the series Silent Witness) directed small town thriller tells the story of Lissa (Reese Witherspoon, Pleasantville) and Nick (Alessandro Nivola, Face/Off). This grungy young couple are in need desperate need of money so they come up with a plan to con Bryce (Josh Brolin, Flirting with Disaster) an old college friend of Nick's out of the money, however, as expected things don't go quite as they expected. ... ...you think about how far you would go to dig yourself out of a hole, however, the challenge is to actually care. This film is boring; it has an uninvolving plot with the worst and most predictable "surprise" ending ever. The only plus points were the deeply ironic title and a typically solid, sexy performance by Reese Witherspoon in an undemanding role.
I watched this in the cinema; the only reason I didn't walk out is that with thrillers a good ...

Advantages: Gripping plot, lots of twists Disadvantages: Slightly predictable in places
Best Laid Plans is a suspenseful crime thriller in which a man gets mixed up in crime and has to deal with the repercussions by repaying the person he's stolen from. The story is well written, with lots of twists, although it is a little predictable at times. The acting is good with occasionally excellent performances, and occasionally poor performances. This film is vaguely similar to Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, although I do mean vaguely, ...

DVD Description
Nick (Alessandro Nivola, FACE/OFF) and Lissa (Reese Witherspoon, LEGALLY BLONDE) are in love but dying to get out of their hometown of Tropico. When Nick is offered a shady job in a drug heist that would pay enough for the couple to leave, he jumps at the opportunity, but things go wrong and Nick gets in trouble with the local drug dealer. Nick and Lissa then plan a scam to get the money they need from old buddy, Bryce (Brolin) but once again, things don't go as planned. A twisty neo-noir with plot turns galore.
