The bellydance superstars is a touring troupe of some of the worlds finest bellydancers, predominantly from America. Mainly choreographed by Jillina, the troupe features a range of styles including cabaret and tribal fusion and is managed by Miles Copeland. This is one of the most professionally produced touring groups of dancers around today. Within the bellydance superstars there are really two troupes, the bellydance superstars and the dessert roses, who are the younger dancers not quite ready for the main headline numbers.
This DVD shows the original show being performed in the folies bergiers in Paris.
The opening number gives a real taste of what's to come with the whole troupe dancing to entrance of the stars. The interplay of the different dancers and styles is amazing-truly a visual spectacular.
Other numbers include Adore who fuses traditional bellydance with gymnastics.
For those people that are more interested in tribal style dance there are a number of dancers within the group, led by Rachel Brice, that do the most amazing tribal fusion, with exceedingly tight muscular movements and amazing control. Even for hose not into tribal, the tribal numbers are a joy to behold.
Jillinas drum solo with Issam Housan on tabla, once again reminds why she is the principle choreographer of the group. She blends jaw dropping technical skill with a healthy dose of humour. Her personality really shines through.
Petite Jamillia showcases her double veil. For anyone who is not familiar with this is involves her spinning almost constantly with beautiful veils framing her movements.
I've been to see the group on numerous occasions and it's interesting to see the progression of the group stylistically.
This DVD is good for both experienced dancer who now the dance well and beginners looking for inspiration.
The production of the dvd is good, and the music varied and interesting.
This may not appeal to dancers who truly love traditional Egyptian bellydance as it is most definitely an Americanised version, with high energy and pizzazz.
