Starting with this familiar premise, it plummets into three disjointed episodes surrounding Belle's life as a captive in the castle. In "The Perfect World" a misunderstanding of words erupts between Belle and the Beast, made worse by a feigned apology. Fifi and Lumiere take the spotlight in "Fifi's Folly" when a romantic evening together becomes a chilling adventure inside a runaway sleigh. In "The Broken Wing" Belle entreats the Beast to act kindly toward a tiny songbird. It relates the story of Belle, a bookworm with a dotty inventor for a father; when heinadvertently offends the Beast (a prince whose heart is too hard to love anyone besides himself) Belle boldly takes her father's place, imprisoned in the Beast's gloomy mansion. Naturally, Belle teaches the Beast to love. What makes this such a dazzler, besides the amazingly accomplished animation and the winning coterie of supporting characters (the Beast's mansion is overrun by quipping, dancing household items) is the array of beautiful and hilarious songs by composer Alan Menken and the late, lamented lyricist Howard Ashman, (winning the 1991 Oscar for Best Song and Menken's score won a trophy as well). The downright funniest song is "Gaston" a lout's paean to himself (including the immortal line: "I use antlers in all of my de-co-ra-ting"). "Be Our Guest" is transformed into an inspired Busby Berkeley homage. Beauty and the beast
This animated movie tells the story of a young shy woman Belle who lives with her father in Paris. He is an inventor and the whole town thinks he's crazy.
Gaston is the man of the town, very popular with the ladies - every man wants to be him and all women want to date him - type of man.
He has a soft spot for Belle and wants to be with her, but when she ignores his advances he sets out to win her heart.
When her father sets off to a inventors convention belle is left alone at home.
As Belle sits at home alone Gaston pays her visit but she hides and runs down to the valley so she doesn't have to deal with him.
Down by the valley, she comes across the horse her father had taken to the convention, so she then knew something bad has happened to her father so off she goes to find him.

in the most unattractive packages whilst those tied with a pretty bow are often empty inside or far worse. Arguably both male characters here are 'using' the girlie for their own means but its a moot point I suppose, at the end of the day its probably not worth over-analysing whats on offer here. Its a heartwarming tale which can be enjoyed by all ages time and again and thats the bottom line.
In terms of technical prowess, Beauty and the Beast is almost faultless. The attention to detail is awesome, right down to such things a strands of loose air falling acrss Belle's forehead, the characters' facial features portraying a full range of emotions accurately and the usually static camera swooping and soaring as it would in a normal non-animated affair. Story and characters
The film is romanic - that is the most important thing. It is also fantasy. The main characters are the Beauty - Belle - and the beast - beast! The beast is really a handsome prince, who has been turned to a beast, until he finds a girl to marry, when the spell is broken. Belle is a very pretty, gentle, friendly girl, who finds her father has been captured and locked away ina castle by a beast. She goes to get her Father and says she wishes to swap places with her Father - hence she be imprisoned instead of him. The beast agrees, and then, over time, falls in love with Belle, as she does with him. It is your usual romance story - a fairytale of course, which never fails to make me cry ...
