Shot down over war savaged bosnia after investigating movement on the ground, naval navigator chris burnett(owen wilson) and witnessing his pilot and friend being shot dead in cold blood he has to evade the enemy and get to a pick up point, sounds easy but it isent.
director john moore does a great job, the film overall is good but not as good as many bruckheimer productions (like 'black hawk down') one very good scene in this film is when burnett sets off loads of mines when he runs threw a trip wire.
Because the film is set in bosnia it dosent have the appeal of the iraq or viatnam wars but it still manages to show the rules of war and how his commanding officer (hackman) can't just jump in with helicopters and save him because of NATO directives.
At the end of the film he is pined down behind his ejection seat because a sniper who has been tracking him down finds him. Even when he has the chance to save himself he risks his own life again to get the hard disk with photos of the mass graves of people that were killed by the serbs.
Behind enemy lines faired well at the box office and made £2.7m in uk and $60m in the usa and i think its a great film that is at least worth you renting.

Advantages: Nice camerawork, atmospheric, some good dramatic scenes Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too 'American', quite political, which may put some off, some slow-ish scenes
