When Skeeter Bronson's father sold their small motel to the entrepreneur, Barry Nottingham, Skeeter was promised job security in the future of the motel. But a lowly janitor of a now famous hotel was not quite what Skeeter had in mind. However, when Nottingham announces the renovation of the hotel into an even more famous and huge hotel, Skeeter's dreams flash before his eyes again, but only for a split second before they are torn away and Nottingham's son-in-law-to-be is given the position of manager.
Then when Skeeter's sister, Wendy, takes a trip and he is asked to look after her two young children, Patrick and Bobbi, his life only gets more depressing. He hasn't seen his nephew and niece in a while, doesn't know how to entertain children and, worst of all, he has a huge disliking for Jill, Wendy's colleague who has been asked to help out. The only thing Skeeter is any good at doing is telling bedtime stories with the help of a goggly eyed
hamster and the children. But when their imaginative stories begin to come true, Skeeter sees an opportunity to get everything he's ever dreamed of.

I'm not a huge fan of Adam Sandler as I can't stand plain stupid films which tend to be his main genre of films but this looked like an enjoyable one so decided to give it a go anyway.
As expected, Sandler does once again play a silly character yet it doesn't end up being over the top or completely ridiculous and so makes for some very comical viewing. At the beginning of the film we see Skeeter's childhood and how he wanted to grow up to run his family's old motel and how he is now miserable in his current job as a lowly janitor. This immediately makes us feel sorry for him and plants us firmly on his side. There is also a love aspect between Skeeter and Jill who hate each other at first sight, but as they get to know more about one another, their feelings grow. This inclusion of 'real' emotions in the film is what takes away from it being a silly and slap-stick type film which makes it more real to life.
I did think it slightly strange that Russell Brand was cast into a children's film but his inclusion made it more watchable for those adults who like him and he added some dry humour into the mix. He didn't look any different or act any different from his usual self (minus the foul language of course) which makes him even funnier to watch when attempting to play a different character.
I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see much of Courteney Cox, as I'm one of those huge Friends enthusiasts, and was hoping to see some action from her since leaving the series but was only greeted with a couple of scenes with her in.
The film is brilliant for children of all ages as the two children in the film are very young and we get to see into their imagination through the stories they make up. This includes monsters made from snot, a sky raining down with gum balls, and many adventurous fighting scenes which are all magical to watch and provide lots of fun and entertainment for the youngsters in the classic Disney style.
Whilst the kids are creating childish adventures, the adults are attempting to steer the bedtime stories in a direction which will be beneficial to them by trying to add more grown up things into the stories such as sexy women, lots of money and revenge on those who deserve it. These parts are more comical and more appropriate for the adults in the audience which does make this a great film for the whole family. There is still a lingering of Sandler's stupid humour which pops up occasionally throughout the film, so his fans won't be disappointed. For me though, these parts did make it stupid and were the only bits I disliked about the film as it made it more unrealistic - yes I do like to think that maybe dreams could come true!
Overall, although it isn't the best of films, Bedtime Stories provides some fun and light-hearted family entertainment in a magical story.
