Bedazzled is a charming sixties comedy written by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore and also starring them along with people like Raquel Welch and Barry Humphries. Bedazzled is a film packed with dark humour and fantasy sequences (like most of the films I like) so please don't mistake it for the horrible remake with Brendan Fraser and Liz Hurley which was a bit too Hollywood.

Stanley Moon (Moore) is a chef at Wimpy, in lust with one of the waitresses but never confident to act on this. Not content with his life he tries to end it when George Spiggot aka The Devil (Cook) appears and offers him 7 wishes in exchange for his soul. Of course being the devil he likes to twist things and stanley's wishes, all for a better, more exciting life aren't as straight forward as he had hoped them to be.

Classic but underrated British comedy. For years it has been unavailable but eventually this year it was released, much to my excitement.

I haven't gone into the plot so much as I don't want to ruin it but from the summary you can see it's a remake of the Faustian myth. Wonderfully done, Cook and Moore are comic geniuses and their performances in this are superb. This movie is a must for your dvd collection.

Unfortunately there are only a couple of extras on the dvd - Interview with Barry Humphries and on-location footage which although good aren't that much for a dvd that has taken ages to come out!

The director Stanley Donen also directed Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Funny Face and The Pajama Game to name a few.

This dvd costs £17.99 on Amazon but £10.00 cheaper at Play! Not much to pay for a screen gem.

So if you liked the remake give this one a chance and if you didn't like it give it a chance as it's miles better.

There aren't many remakes that are better than the original.
