I would just like to write a review on Bean: the Ultimate Disaster Movie, the first movie that has been created for the character of Mr Bean. Many of you will know of Mr Bean, theh hapless character that was created by Rowan Atkinson (of Blackadder fame). Bean has this inept ability to create chaos wherever he goes without even realising what he is doing, but he also has an almost eccentrically intellectual mind that helps him to get through most things.
This film starts out in the National Art Gallery in London, where Bean is employed in a caretaker-type role who is paid to sit in the corner and 'look at the paintings' as he puts it during the course of the film. The gallery has been asked to send a represntative to the Grierson gallery in Los Angeles, but rather than send a member ofo staff who is worth anything to them the director agrees to send over Mr Bean - at least it gets him off their back for a while, and they even given him a month or two over there as a form of a sabbatical.
The reason for his going, is to be there for the unveiling of the portrait of Whistlers' Mother in front of the local elite and the media - although the art gallery who are receiving him have absolutely no idea as to what they have let themselves in for. And for some reason, hhe is known as Doctor Bean.
On arrival in the States, Mr Bean stays with the curator of the art gallery along with his family - David Langley (Peter Macnicol who was in Ally McBeal). But in true Bean style, he breaks up the happy family home - resulting in his wife leaving him a long with the children.
It doesn't stop there! When they eventually get to see the portrait prior to its unveiling, Bean wrecks it with paint thinner. But at the 11th hour, Bean's intellect kicks in - he replaces it with a poster! This is used during the unveiling, and no other person is any the wiser apart from Bean's host.
In the meantime, Langley's daughter is seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident along with her boyfriend. On arrival on the hospital, Bean still has his Dr Bean nametag on - and yet again, gets a case of mistaken identity but even to the point of treating Langley's daughter and curing her! The family agree to let him stay, finally having grown to like him.
In my own opinion, this is an almost innocent film that doesn't set out to make fun of anything in particular but rather just a simple man who is trying his best to get liked by people - even though it generally never seems to work! However, I do think that in some ways they have tried to copy thhe original Bean television programmes as there are certain small aspects that have been included in here - him falling off a chair; blowing his nose; his teddy bear, and so on. I think that this has spoiled it in some ways, but with that said I feel that there is not a lot else that they could have put in to it though.
This film is sold on various prpicetags, so look around for the best deals. It is available wherever you can but iflms, either on the Internet or in shops.
