****INTRODUCTION**** Once again as my niece and nephew invaded my bedroom and slept the night, I looked for a family movie we could all watch last weekend. I came across Bean - The Ultimate Disaster Movie and we hadn't watched it for ages so we all agreed on it. And what a good choice it was as it had us chuckling from start to end!
I remember when I first saw the television series of Mr. Bean back in 1989 and thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Rowan Atkinson just has a completely rubber face that seems to have been born for comedy. The character was apparently based on the work of French comic genius Jacques Tati. The wonderful thing about the series is that he never speaks and so Mr Bean was marketable the whole world over. The fact that he made half hour programmes without speaking once and managed to have us all in stiches throughout suggests to me the work of a comic genius.

***THE STORY***
We begin in the Royal National Gallery where Mr Bean works in London. He is disliked by everyone except the big boss and when they all realise they can't sack him, they decide to let him make his own mistakes by sending him on the extremely important job of handling a $50 million deal with a gallery in California. He is sent to unveil the painting of "Whistler's Mother". He will be staying with David Langley (Peter MacNicol (Ally Macbeal) and his family who are under the false impression that he is a Doctor and a genius!
How wrong could they be?! He is immediately arrested upon arrival for acting suspiciously and it's so amusing to see Bean back in action. David Langley's wife is horryfied and wants him out immediately and the only person he seems to be able to please is the son.
As usual, anything that can go wrong, does; in fact, even in a situation where you would expect nothing to be able to go wrong, Bean manages to screw up. He is the exact same man we saw in 1989 with the same sort of hilarious mishaps.
Of course, the unveiling of the painting doesn't go as planned and you have to cringe as things go from bad to worse with this $50,000,000 picture! The most important question is though, will he get away with it? And if so, how? I won't spoil it by telling you.
***THE ACTORS****
* Director - Mel Brooks
* Mr Bean - Rowan Atkinson. A fantastic performance from Rowan. He's just so naturally funny. All the more credit to him considering he co-wrote the whole movie with Richard Curtis.
* David Langley - Peter MacNicol. Peter is a very talented actor and is great in this movie although I doubt he will find a role that suits him better than John Cage in Ally MacBeal.
These are the two main actors but amongst the others are: Burt Reynolds - General Newton Pamela Reed - Alison Langley A surprising little appearance by June Brown (Dot Cotton from Eastenders)
****BEST BITS****
*At the themepark where Mr Bean has some fun of his own with the wiring of a simulator ride. The results had my niece and nephew falling off the bed laughing. And I admit I did laugh quite a bit myself. All this results in another arrest which leads to some hilarious scenes with a two-way mirror.
*Bean and Peter coming home drunk singing Yesterday and Row, row, row your boat! Sooooo funny.
****SOUNDTRACK**** Only one song sticks in my mind and that's YESTERDAY by the Beatles. The rest of the music is appropriate to the movie and well chosen.
****THE EXTRAS**** Unfortunately, there aren't many extras on this DVD. There is just "Coming Attractions" which is basically trailers for other films but in a written format which is somehow worse than actually watching trailers. Then there is the "Cast and Filmakers" which gives us a brief biography and filmography of: Rowan Atkinson, Peter MacNicol, Burt Reynolds, Richard Curtis and Mel Brooks. So disappointing really. I always look forward to seeing the extras but unfortunately not much to see here.
****THE RESULT**** The result is a very entertaining movie - especially if you're looking for something to watch with the kids, or even if you're not! It will make you laugh out loud and Rowan Atkinson's facial expression alone provides fantastic entertainment. I'd definitely recommend this movie to people of all ages.
Advantages: Fairly amusing Disadvantages: A little cliche'd at times
...portrait to the world DR Bean must present the very face of British dignity amidst the glitz and glamour that only America could create. Is he eccentric or just downright insane? The Langley family (who he's staying with) start to have their doubts...
Ok, the story is about as predictable as Norman Wisdom walking past a swimming pool but what struck me immediately was the quality of the script. Yes this is fundamentally a slapstick film (I expected ... ...man here and his Mr Bean has never been better realised. Less pathetic than before we see his friendliness and caring side coming through far more clearly than in the TV shows (where he just seemed brian dead to me). Luckily though he does get fabulous support and equal top honours go to Peter MacNicol who provides a wonderful counterbalance. The rest of the cast are less prominant but manage to get the job done, and it all comes together nicely.

...to have an affinity to Bean that reminds themselves of an incident from their past. I think there are times that we have all done something that we have found extremely embarrassing and wish we could turn back time and undo the event. Times when we have made terrible mistakes, times when we wish we could just disappear and times when we just cannot think of what to say. ...the big-screen version of the Bean TV series was released. Directed by Mel Smith, written by Robin Driscoll (who co-wrote the TV version) and Richard Curtis, how could it fail to be brilliant? ...youthful days I loved Mr Bean and rushed out, well not exactly rushed but still hurried out to buy his movie. In fairness the first time I watched it I really enjoyed it but afer a few times it just didn't seem funny anymore. The film begins with a classic Mr Bean sketch, he gets up, shaves (even his tongue), has his coffee (which is prepared in his mouth) and runs to work, as he's late.
Mr Bean has somehow landed himself a job in The Royal National ... ...with flying ornaments. Bean has been sent to make a speech on America's finest painting "Whistler's Mother". Advantages: More of what you'd expect from the short series. Disadvantages: Lacking in additional DVD features.
If you are familiar with the actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson's character creation Mr Bean and the British comedy series of the same name, then you'll know exactly what to expect from "Bean - The UltimateDisasterMovie"? his full-length film debut.
It took three years for Mr Bean's big screen foray to be made and was written by Rowan Atkinson, Richard Curtis and Robin Driscoll. Directed by Mel Smith, Mr Bean gets up to his usual disastrous antics as this geeky absurd character ventures to Hollywood. The film opens with oddball Mr Bean sleeping on the job. He works at the National Gallery in London and his personal job description is 'to sit in the corner and look at the paintings'. At a board meeting, the members propose to sack Mr Bean until the chairman sings his praise. It seems only right then that he is selected for a three ...
I would just like to write a review on Bean: the UltimateDisasterMovie, the first movie that has been created for the character of Mr Bean. Many of you will know of Mr Bean, theh hapless character that was created by Rowan Atkinson (of Blackadder fame). Bean has this inept ability to create chaos wherever he goes without even realising what he is doing, but he also has an almost eccentrically intellectual mind that helps him to get through most things.
This film starts out in the National Art Gallery in London, where Bean is employed in a caretaker-type role who is paid to sit in the corner and 'look at the paintings' as he puts it during the course of the film. The gallery has been asked to send a represntative to the Grierson gallery in Los Angeles, but rather than send a member ofo staff who is worth anything to them ...
Advantages: funny, suitable for all the family Disadvantages: childish humour won't be everyone's taste
I first saw the saw this movie just after it came out back in 1997, and don't remember being all that impressed with it. I watched it a few weeks ago however, and thought it was much better than I remembered.
~The story~
Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) is working for the Royal National Gallery of London, where he is their worst employee, detested by the rest of the staff for his general hopelessness and tendency to fall asleep on the job. They are desperate to get rid of him, but the head of the gallery wants him to stay. When an opportunity arises for an art scholar to go to Los Angeles for the unveiling of a portrait, 'Whistler's mother', which is to be returned to the U.S where it was painted, the gallery staff unanimously vote for Mr Bean to go, just so they can be rid of him for a while.
Mr Bean arrives in America to be greeted by ...

DVD Description
In his big-screen debut, the BBC's beloved, bumbling, barely verbal Mr. Bean lands in the plastic wasteland of Los Angeles, where he has been sent to guard Whistler's Mother as it changes hands between the London National Art Gallery and a chichi private gallery. Absurd laughs from the hilarious Atkinson.
