Most Si Fi I can get into after I get used to a new idea this is one that I have found difficult to like. At first I thought it was bias to the original series but in some areas I think they have missed or lost the plot all together.

So where is it lacking, well in a number of areas actually, lets start with the bad guys. Anyone who will have watched to original show will know the bad guys are the Zylons, metal men(robots) once ruled by humans but who rebeled with the intent of wiping out all human life. The bad guys with that single scanning eye may have been slow and stupid with thier metallic voices but they had a certain charisma. Not so the new metal men who just seem to do nothing but clunk about and thats all. The main bad guys are even worse the head of the zylons look just like us. In fact they are copied over and over. Its a nice idea having zylons that are hard to detect but it does make it hard for the viewer to identifiy and hate the bad guys.

This Galactica is a darker version of the orginal with many of the characters such as Starbuck, Apollo, Comander Adama and Cornel Tigh all having darker sides to their character, i.e. Colnel Tigh is an Alcoholic, Apollo has real issues with his father and almost everybody has issues with Adama who is certainly a more ruthless character. Starbuck has changed gender which is good in a 21st century remake but Starbuck in this although unruly in the orginal goes way over the top managing to annoy everyone.

And what is going on with Dr Baltar who in the original sold out the entire human race. In this you don't know wther your coming or going he sees one of the head zylons (in his head I think) regularly and has been caught on more than one occasion doing weird things that I can't even repeat in this review. Lets just say it follows an adult theme.

Having said all that I'm still watching , the effects are good and they have made a decent attempt to update the Galactica and Vipers. Which by the way is low tech to avoid the zylons from affecting the machinery, nice touch that.

If your into sci fi you might like it but if your expecting a copy of the orignal you'll be dissapointed. Personnally I would like to see the theme tune spiced up and the storyline made less bland it needs to pick up a little pace as most of the time it ambles along as it has all the time in the world. Hopefully the series will pick up otherwise it will be lucky to survive past a couple seasons.

Nice review. The series is flawed but has some good points. Hopefully the second series will stick to sci-fi.
