But after a stunning first year that broke preconceptions and cynics alike, this second season leaves nothing to the imagination as viewers can't seem to get enough BSG!
After the insane ending to the first year - a cliff-hanger that stunned so many people, series two picks up right from that moment and never stops racing around at a rapid pace. This is a must-have for any Television Science Fiction fan. If you live in the UK, you are far more lucky to have the season come in one box set. North Americans have to deal with two separate box halves consisting of ten episodes each, which can add up to lots more money.
Not wanting to give too much of the plot away, suffice it to say that series two is much more mature than series one, (if it could get any more mature), and we delve further into character developments and strategic positions for the fleet of ragtag ships and their Cylon pursuers.
The first quarter of season two has the Galactica crew totally off-kilter after the assassination attempt of Commander Adama. Under the rule of Colonel Tigh, things start to go seriously wrong as tensions increase and all hell breaks loose. The second episode alone is incredibly spooky and will have you on the edge of your seat.
BSG is never a show you should take for granted and anyone can die or be killed off. Favourite characters are not treated in that untouchable way that most other shows tend to plot out. Each and every character is vulnerable and in this series, as with the last one, tragedy strikes just over mid-way through.
A special nod to the show's original series arrives half-way through the season with the arrival of the Battlestar Pegasus, this time helmed by the ruthless Admiral Cain, (played extremely well by former Star Trek regular Michelle Forbes), a mad woman who outranks Adama and threatens the safety of the entire fleet.
The DVD box set contains a special, not broadcast, extended version of the episode "Pegasus" that is essential viewing for all the extra wonderful elements left out of the original broadcast.
The only real let-down of the series has to be the slower episodes "Black Market" and "Scar" where some out-of-the-blue character developments have left many viewers scratching their heads in wonder. With the strength of such an incredible series, the fact that story arcs cannot be woven throughout the seasons and instead seem to leap out for one "special" episode and are never referred to again reaks of the remnants of the Star Trek template of taking turns with single bridge-crew member stories. But even these stories have their surprises and overall, one cannot fault such an innovative series.
However, by the end of the season, the story changes and all of a sudden there is a new location for the population of the 12 colonies... a practically barren planet dubbed, New Caprica. What fate awaits these struggling remnants of humanity when the Cylons arrive and the Galactica is forced to jump away, abandonning the planet to its new masters?
Even if you are not a true sci fi fan, but a lover of drama, this series is still one of the very best on television. Catch it while you can.
Series three on DVD is due out in August/September 2007 so you have only a few more months to watch the DVD of series two in order to catch up!

...of the new version of Battlestar Galactica.
We bought this boxed set as a present for my sons 18th birthday.
I laughed derisively when my husband ordered this from Amazon.
In my imagination I saw the 70's attempt at a cheap sci fi tv program and wondered why they had bothered remaking it for the new millenium! Whenever my husband and son watched the new series 1 on TV ,I had gone upstairs to read.
However ,it was a birthday and so we all sat ... ...all.
The Commander of the Battlestar (the only major warship believed to have escaped the cylons), commander Adama believes she is not.
There is division amongst the humans ,those who believe the prophesy and those who do not..
Cylons are discovered amongst the humans and interrogated. They are very resilient . Should one be 'killed' its life experience can be uploaded to the rest of its copies. There is even a kind of reincarnation which makes ...

Advantages: Great show, remember it first time round and this is an improvement Disadvantages: Watch the 1st Series before attempting this!
...When it was announced that Battlestar Galactica was being remade I thought oh god not another perfectly good show wrecked by "bringing it up to date". But wait it works.
The basic storyline is that Human built the Cylons to work as slave labour for them, the robots rebel and disappear into space. Then the Cylons later return and eliminate the worlds inhabited by humans. One group of people has managed to escape on board the Battlestar Galactica ... ...Season 2 builds on the foundations of season 1 and develops the two major plot lines, the nature of the Cylon threat, and the threat from traitors within. There are a few episodes that are merely very good. By far the best episodes, in this series are the 3-part arc starting with "Pegasus" and also the 2-part finale "Lay Down Your Burdens" which are absolutely excellent.
On the downside there are next to no extras on the DVDs.
I have heard that ...

Advantages: Amazing Special Effects, Out Of This World Storyline Disadvantages: Some Episodes Are Not Really Needed
for siding with laura Rosin because of a power struggle, then the situation gets worse when the Cylons attack and an emergency jump goes wrong where Galactica is separate from the fleet and leave Adama without the medical treatment he needs. It then becomes a race to find the fleet again while the Cylons are hot on there tail. A key moment of the series is when the Galactica is boarded by the Cylons and a battle on the ship breaks out. this is the first time we see the Cylons close up and find out there true ability's. Soon after this Galactica soon finds they are not alone with the shocking surprise of the Battlestar Pegasus another ship that survived the first attack but soon shocking story's begin to arise about the captain of the Pegasus that there were many ships with her but when the ship arrived she was the only one.

. The show explores the consequences of man's pursuit of better technology, the creation of artificial intelligence culminating in the Cylons and how man's destruction is his own doing.
The DVD comes with high quality audio and picture clarity as should be expected of any DVD. Dolby Digital is available which is always good and makes the experience more enjoyable. The boxedset itself however has a glaring error: stated on the box is that the Mini series (which you need to watch to understand the story) is included but upon opening it clearly isn't. If you have the receipt and have the box with the aforementioned statement on it then you can obtain the missing discs at wherever you bought it. I don't know if this is the case naymore, it is likely that all the mistake stock have been withdrawn since the initial release. Most likely any stock ...
Human beings built the android Cylons to work as servants for them, only to have the robots rebel and disappear into space. A generation later, however, the Cylons returned to destroy their former masters, and succeeded in eliminating the 12 worlds that mankind inhabited. Luckily, one group of people has managed to escape the genocide--led by Commander William Adama--on board the massive space ship called Battlestar Galactica. But the struggle isn't over, as the ruthless Cylons continue to pursue the ship and the last surviving members of the human race.
This updated and re-imagined version of the classic 1970s sci-fi television show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA combines elements of STAR TREK, STAR WARS, and THE TERMINATOR. Human beings built the android Cylons to work as servants for them, only to have the robots rebel and disappear into space. A generation later, however, the Cylons returned to destroy their former masters, and succeeded in eliminating the 12 worlds that mankind inhabited. Luckily, one group of people has managed to escape the genocide, led by Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos), on board the massive space ship called Battlestar Galactica. But the struggle isn't over, as the ruthless Cylons continue to pursue the ship and the last surviving members of the human race. This vision of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA features a darker tone and CGI special effects, and shares with other science fiction sagas a warning about the misuse of advanced technology.
