Battlefield - The Siege Of Leningrad DVD

Advantages: Extremely amusing

...I imagine that most of you will not have heard of Leningrad Cowboys Go America, but let me tell you that it is one fantastic movie! This film, extremely low budget that it is, is based on a Finnish cult rock and roll band called the Leningrad Cowboys, who actually exist. It follows their quest for success in the land of the free that is America. We see them from the airport in Helsinki to end up in Mexico and success at last! In between we see how they learn their trade, their own take on democracy and many amusing happenings! It is basically a road movie of a very cheap nature. The story is not convoluted and all it takes is a little patience...it is worth it! There are a couple of quotes which make this movie worth while. Advantages: surreal comedy

...I once heard this film described as what might have been the result if David Lynch had directed The Blues Brothers. That's a description that I would struggle to beat. However, the man responsible for this gem of a film is the one and only Aki Kaurismäki. This man is the key player in the Finnish film industry and his sense of the ridiculous is never too far away. For example another notable films he has directed is "Hamlet Goes Business", a modern day Hamlet set in a rubber duck factory. Get the picture? In "Leningrad Cowboys Go To America" Aki Kaurismäki portrays the Leningrad Cowboys (a real-life Finnish rock band) as a down and out Russian rock band under the tutelage of a corrupt manager (Matti Pelonpää) who takes them on a journey to America in search of success and money. Advantages: 3 top films in one box cheap price
Disadvantages: doesn't look good in the dvd collection display

...If you like any of these films then this is a must buy. Set out simply in 1 box which folds out so you can see all 3 dvds side by side. The only problem is that the box is bland and will look odd sat next to a plastic dvd case, but still worth the money as in my opinion the films are great and the price is outstanding. Broken arrow staring john travolta is a clsasic film, speed is also another classic along with the siege. these films arent high budget but they certainly pack a punch. Recommended if you enjoy a abit of action along with a simple story line which will keep you entertained through out. so sit back and enjoy... Read review
