...This years summer hit may well be "PearlHarbour". It stars Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale along with Cuba Gooding Jr. I have seen the trailer and it promises to be a good film.
It is based on the infamous bombing of the US naval base at PearlHarbour, Hawaii in 1941 by the Japanese. Over two thousand were killed in the surprise attack that moved the Americans into the second world war.
Obviously, the film will have a love story interwoven into it, but, I suspect the real star of the film will be the battle scenes. From what I saw on the trailer, they looked very authentic and realistic. They reminded me of the scenes in Private Ryan, almost documentary style.
The soundtrack is very moving and adds to the sense of disaster as hundreds of Japanese bombers sneak upon the beautiful Hawaii, wreaking destruction and death on it...

Advantages: Shows human suffering en masse Disadvantages: weak script
...Having heard the reviews I really wasn't expecting much from this film and I was conscious that it wasn't that true to history, yet PearlHarbour was absolutely heartbreaking.
Disregarding the script containing such gems as Kate Beckinsale's beautifully delivered line "and then all this happened" this film is a must see; whether you support war or not this film successfully shows the horror of a surprise attack on thousands of unsuspecting victims.
The section where PearlHarbour is bombed is long, tiring and mentally exhausting- one could almost consider it too long except you feel guilty that you can't sit through this on screen when thousands were actually killed by it. There are sickening sections where you see men trapped under ships with the full realisation that they will die; the camera work in the hospital portrays confusion...

Advantages: I cant think of any Disadvantages: Too many factual discrpeancies.
...PearlHarbour the war tale of the Japanese air strike on the American Pacific port of PearlHarbour. In the film the main story is a love story between a woman and a naval officer and their fight to stay together, this really spoils the film.
This film had a huge budget to make the film and with this you should think that the movie should turn out half decent. With only 117 factual discrepancies it hasnt turned out that bad than has it. The tale of PearlHarbour would have been just fine without the stupid love story but with this love story that main plot of the real tale is sum what distorted.
The movie had a huge premier inside a battle ship with all these stars, what justification is there to spend all of that money when there are people starving to death in Africa how can they justify spending a huge sum of money to launch...
