Advantages: The advantages to buying The Count Of Monte Cristo would be enjoying an amazing movie. Disadvantages: The disadvantages would be a decrease of some pounds or dollars in your wallet.
...I recently saw The Count Of Monte Cristo at my Grandmother's house for the first time. It was the most amazing movie I have ever seen. Jim Cavizel does an amazing job and he really fits the character. He also isn't hard on the eyes. This movie is entertaining, action packed and it has an incredible plot line. I don't want to give too much away but it's a movie that almost everyone can enjoy. This movie would make a great gift for holidays or birthdays as well. I thoroughly enjoying this film and anyone else who saw it would as well. Jim Cavizel also stars in the movie Frequency with Dennis Quaid, another outstanding film with another amazing plot line....

Advantages: very watchable swashbuckler, with a great lead performance from jim calzvial Disadvantages: guy pearce sometimes verges on the hammy
...Kevin reynolds version of the count of monte cristo is very watchable and has a great lead performance from jim calzvial. He conveys the emotions perfectley of a man who has been betrayed and wrongly prisoned beautifully. His acting is especially good when he has escaped and assumes the identity of the count .Guy pearce as the scoundrel who has sold out his friend is good too though at times his accent goes of into tangents and his acting towards the end is a little hammy. The late richard harris is moving and belivable as the prisoner who helps calzvial escape.
the fight scenes are well staged and music score is good conveying the feel of the times.reynolds who directed robin hood prince of theives brings a lot of that films swashbuckilng style to this movie...

Advantages: A few well-played parts, visually impressive. Disadvantages: Script and plot are weak, characters too stereotypical.

If you did like The Man in the Iron Mask, you'll like The Count of Monte Cristo because it is along similar lines. Fans of swashbuckling action should also rejoice - there's a fair bit of that. My wife claims to have enjoyed it greatly - but her judgement tends to rely exclusively on how good looking the star is (Caviezel scored nine out of ten, in case you were interested!). If you do decide that you want to see The Count of Monte Cristo , you would be best to find a cinema that is re-showing it (my cinema re-runs older movies on Saturday mornings) instead of watching it on DVD or VHS - you won't appreciate the sheer scale of the locations otherwise.
