Well, my friend recommended this movie to me, and so at a party we all sat down, and watched it.. what can I say? I wasnt disapointed, the hype he attatched to it was well deserved!
I have little recollection of how the movie begins, but I'll go from where I can remember, the main story begins when the kids from this school are taken on a school trip, and given these cookies on the bus that make them pass out, they way wake up in a room, with their teacher, this is when they're told they're taking part in Battle Royale, a sick invention that basically is last man standing. Each student is given a pack of stuff, including a weapon, and sent out onto an island.
The overall storyline shows how each of the pupils dies, some of the deaths are very gory, but hell, its worth it.. There are 2 people who go onto the island who were not from the class, however. One is a psychotic blonde haired cool lookin guy who goes onto the island for the fun of it! He, obviously, gets killed. Poor sod. The other is the winner of a previous Battle Royale, who got kidnapped and taken there. He is the guy who helps these two kids who are in love to almost survive the island.
Overall, the storyline is just littered with violence, and, being subtitled only, makes for quite difficult viewing. There is a tactic to watching this movie, first time through, take little notice of the subtitles, focus on whats going on on-screen, the second time round, read the subtitles, the third time round, try and put them together ;)
A good film, worth watching, hope they dont do a crap americanised version like they did for a few other cult japanese films.
