I loved this movie. Everything about it was superb. Yes the acting was a bit ropey in places and some of the dialogue obviously lost a bit in translation but that's one of the eternal joys of watching foreign films.
As each child gets killed there is a caption on the screen telling you who they were and how many more left to go. I can honestly say that I have never before seen a film which counts down the amount of deaths left in it - genius!
And I can guarantee that you'll never see a more bizarre screen death than 'Beat' Takeshi's in Battle Royale.
This film isn't deep, it isn't a philosophical comment on contemporary sociological problems. What it is, however, is a great idea made into a movie which is great fun. I was alternatively shocked and laughing out loud at this movie. If there was any point, I would buy a second copy, it's that good.
