Plot: THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES is a witty black comedy from Ealing comedy director Charles Crichton. The House of MacPherson has been supplying Scottish tweeds for years--its weavers make the tweed in their homes on the Scottish islands, and the staff sells it in the company's Edinburgh premises. When Old MacPherson (Ernest Thesiger) dies, his son, Young MacPherson (Robert Morley), takes over and brings in an efficiency expert. That's bad enough, but worse, the expert is a woman and, even worse than that, she is an American woman. Horrors. The staff, led by Mr. Martin (Peter Sellers), is aghast. The expert Angela Barrows (Constance Cummings) begins to organise, to streamline, and to make plans to update the company's manufacturing methods. Young MacPherson is entranced--seduced by the idea of becoming famous for his soon-to-be-implemented revolutionary manufacturing methods. However, the ever-deferential Mr. Martin discovers unexpected levels of cunning as he pits his wits against the brash American. THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES is crisply directed by Charles Crichton, with a witty script by Monja Danischewsky, based on a James Thurber story. And Peter Sellers gives a fine performance as the shy, inhibited Mr. Martin, who turns out to be an extraordinary schemer.

Brave or a Hero
Review of Braveheart DVD by Nickfeather

Advantages: excellent story, cast, special effects and great action
Disadvantages: none at all

...In the answer to my title BOTH. Braveheart is a story about a C13th scotish rebel called William Wallace, he has been called up by the celts to fight against the English is the English's threat of expanding their empire by taking over Scotland grows. At the begining William doesn't have an army but he manages to persuade the Scots to joinhim in the fight. The film goes on and William becomes quite famous as a star to the English and a Hero to the Scots. He seems to know everything to do with battle. Later in the film William is knighted and he comes up against the toughest battle, a castle in the middle of England..........(I never tell the story)Watch this to find out the ending. This film has it all, action, sex (i think), great storyline and excellent cast.... Read review

A nice movie to watch for a day in
Review of The Last Legion DVD by chaizak

Advantages: An action adventure movie for the whole family
Disadvantages: Not so focused on the historic details

...I watched this movie last night with a couple of friend and because of it's IMDB rating didn't expect to much, but it was surprisingly good for a historic action movie not in the level of gladiator or Spartacus but still watchable. The movie is about the Excalibur but it's not your usual Arthur story that you watched over and over again the movie is about how the sword got there where Arthur pulled it from. The movie is not one of the most violent movies I've seen and frankly I liked that part the movie was more about honor and doing the right thing although it had a fair share of battles and duels in the movie is not focused on that so it would do for a 10+ audience since it has no sex or swearing as well. I must say I enjoyed this movie and I would suggest to other people to watch... Read review

a gory film
Review of 300 DVD by prozium

Advantages: good special effects
Disadvantages: gory?

...A film based on the Persian Wars and the battle of Thermopylae. Sparta is under attack by the Persian empire and their 'god king' Xerxes. The Spartan king, Leonidas, leads 300 Spartans to fight the millions of Persians at the choke point - the hot gates. Limbs and heads are sliced as blood spills everywhere. A action and war film. Plenty of violence and blood. The film is pretty historically accurate but there are some VERY unrealistic parts, which were made to impress the audience, take for instance the 'uber immortal' - a huge Persian who is about 3m tall and is basically an animal. The special effects were good. The way the Spartans fight is pretty amazing. There are scenes of sex and nudity. The acting overall is about average, but Gerald butler's Scottish accent is distinct. The soundtrack is fairly good, it fits in well... Read review
