Battle Ground - The German Frontier DVD

Advantages: Good action movie, acting and presentation of characters.
Disadvantages: Fictional account based on historical facts.

Very gung-ho and also very credible ( My father who is dead now fought with the US forces in Anzio and he told me that this was an accurate portrayal of just what the junior officers in the US army were like - just a generalisation of course ). This story really revolves around the American detachment lead by George Segal and their individual and personal struggles during the battle; it also focuses on the Germans and by giving both sides an equal focus, lets us know what the battle must have really been like. The battle scenes themselves are all very good and it all seems totally believable, even the scene at the end when George Segals character just walks up to the German end of the bridge, amongst the machine gun bullets hitting the ground all around him and gets the remaining Germans to surrender... Advantages: Good music
Disadvantages: story, special effects and acting

...Star trek 5 the final frontier was one of the strangest star trek films to date. It doesn't even have good special effects and the acting is not as good as previous performances. The only good thing about this film is the music done by Jerry Goldsmith. The story starts with Kirk, Spock and Mccoy camping. But shore leave is soon cancelled and the incomplete USS Enterprise leaves space dock on course for Nimbus 3. A hostage situation has taken place, one of the 3 hostages is a human dimplomat. The other two are a Romulan and a Klingon, both dimplomats. The planet is an attempt at peace which sadly failed, Kirk is given orders to rescue the hostages and beware the Klingons who are also attempting to reach Nimbus 3. Upon arriving at Nimbus 3, Kirk, Spock and Mccoy and an assault party use a shuttle to reach the planet. After a furious... Read review

Advantages: Good performances from mainly unknown actors
Disadvantages: Too long, boring and never really gets to grips with the historic facts.

...The battle of Starlingrad was the pivitol turning point in the Second World War. It took place in the autumn and winter of 1942/43 and the Gernams never recovered from the deteat the Russians infliected upon them. It was the first major defeat the germans suffered and they lost a whole army, ( the 6th Army ) and had so over stretched themselves that they never, ever had the resources to hold the front ever again. From that moment on they were on the defensive and ultimately lost the war because of it. As such, this was a brave movie for a german production company to make. The horrors that the German soldiers suffered in the surrounded city up until they surrendered are well documented and many thousands of them died not from bullet or shrapnal wounds but from stavation and worst of all, cold, their biggest problem being of their own...
