As fantasy adventure films go, this is one of the best, sure it's not as good as the likes of ET, but it is a lot of fun with a good story behind it.
Starring real life married couple Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy it combines comedy, action, drama and even manages to tug on the heart strings (like all good fantasy adventures should).
It's about a group of robot aliens who help out residents of an appartment block who are on the edge of eviction due to a greedy developer, who predictably will stop at nothing to get them out. Each resident has their own unique problems to overcome, and each believe that the aliens have arrived because of them.
The special effects are dated compared to today's standards, but the film is definetly worth watching if you don't want to get into a film with a complicated plot, or you just want to occupy the kids for a while.
The cast are great and kids will love the fantasy element. Running through the story is the notion that anything can be accomplished if everyone pulls together.
Some adults may find it too childish but it's a great film for the family, and kids will love it.
