This is probably one of the most unknown Disney classic.

Plot: London, 1897. Dr Dawson, just returned from overseas, finds young mouse child (Olivia Flaversham) crying in the streets. He goes to her aid in going to 221½ Baker Street to meet Basil, who is the famous mouse detective, to ask his help in finding her father. Basil soon begins to realize that her father, a toymaker, has been kidnapped by Basil's sworn enemy, the evil Professor Rattigan. Dawson and Olivia join Basil as he uncovers Rattigan's nefarious scheme to create an automaton that will replace the mouse Queen during her coming diamond jubilee celebrations

At the time the movie was quite new and it doesn't quite fit in with the other movies Disney made in that period., perhaps that's the reason why it isn't as well known as other disney classics but "The Great Mouse Detective" is worth watching especially if your a bog fan of disney classics.

The characters are real classics and some of the best to have ever appeared in a Disney movie. Professor Ratigan (voiced by the Vincent Price) is quite definately my favorite movie villai. His style and humor is fantastic.

The story is good a real good family entertainer But of course the idea of making a story about the mouse version of Sherlock Holmes alone is already good enough to make a fun movie about.

One of the other things that makes this movie different compared to other Disney's from that period are the songs or better said the lack of it. The movie features only one song (3 if you count the bar song and the goodbye, so soon song.). But it's not a miss. The surprising magnificent musical score by famous composer Henry Mancini make up for this loss.

The movie has a very spectacular final on and in the famous Big Ben. It's by far my favorite Disney movie ending.

Certainly a fun movie to watch over and over again.
