This is the story of Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker' featuring Barbie as the lead character. The makers have done a good job telling the story in a way that young children can understand.
The story is a classic and the music is excellent. The animation is good but not on a par with other recent animated films.
I bought this DVD for my two young nieces who are learning ballet and are huge Barbie fans. Having bought this DVD in large part because of the descriptions of the dancing on the case I was very disappointed by the small amount of dancing that is actually in the film. The dancing scenes that there are look attractive but they are very brief and the majority of the story is not told to music.
I would recommend this DVD to true Barbie fans but anyone else may not enjoy it. Also, although my older niece was all right with the film my younger niece found the character of the Mouse King quite frightening. The DVD may not be suitable for very young children.
