Yet another classic Disney film and this time in the form of 'Bambi'. Released in 1942 only 1 year after Dumbo and yet it seems to be much more modern in my opinion. This was the 5th ever animated Disney film to hit our screens and I'm sure everybody will have seen this one at some point!
The story: Bambi is the story of a young deer learning about life in the forest. He soon makes many friends including the wonderful and so cute Thumper. Bambi has to deal with many lessons in life and even has to learn to live without his mother in the forest when she is shot by hunters. However his father wants him to become strong and a leader like he is as Bambi is the 'Prince of the Forest and one day must be strong and brave enough to take his father's place to lead the other deer's and keep them safe.
The cast: There are different voices used for the same character in this film as there is one for example Bambi as a young deer and also fully grown. The list of main characters and the actor used for the voices are below -
Young Bambi - Donnie Dunagan Adolescent Bambi - Hardie Albright Adult Bambi - John Sutherland Young Thumper - Peter Behn Adult Thumper - Sam Edwards/Tim Davies Young Flower - Stan Alexander Adolescent Flower - Tim Davies Adult Flower - Sterling Holloway
A familiar name pops up again in this Disney film as it does in so many Disney features - Sterling Holloway who did the voice of the adult Flower was the voice of Winnie the Pooh. Also you'll notice the man who did the voice of the adolescent flower also did part of the adult Thumper even though there was also a second actor doing adult Thumper!
Extras: The DVD I have has a variety of extras on it which are -
Two deleted scenes The making of Bambi Restoring Bambi The art of Bambi The legacy continues - the new Bambi film Disney Time Capsule: 1942- The year of Bambi Virtual Forest Disney's storyline: Thumper goes exploring The Forest adventure DisneyPedia: Bambi's forest friends What's your season? Personality profile
As you can see there are quite a lot of extras included in this DVD. Personally I love it when there are maybe a couple of short cartoons included but, these extras are all games and activity type extras. I think the making of Bambi will appeal to some as that is always quite interesting to see how the film is put together. Overall though a good amount and you're definitely getting your money's worth!
Overall opinion: I remember the first time I ever watched Bambi and I thought how cute it was especially the way Flower delivers his famous line ''you can call me flower if you want to!'' The story is good and the animals cute - the little adventures they have as friend appeals to children but, even though the film is definitely geared at children there are a couple of scenes that may scare or unsettle them so it might be best watched with parents around! The film is most certainly one of those Disney classics that you have to watch at some point if you haven't already and most people who do will fall in love with it.
The DVD is available to buy from various online and high street stores and expect to pay around the £12 mark. It is rated 'U' so is suitable for everyone.

It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the ... more
death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening...
