DVD Description
A sequel to 1995's BALTO, the story of a half wolf, half dog who leads a sled full of antitoxins through the Alaskan winter to a town suffering from diphtheria, BALTO II picks up where the first ended. After settling down with Jenna and having 6 pups, it soon becomes time for Balto to give his children up for adoption to human families. However, no one wants Aleu, his daughter, because she looks so much like a wolf. When Aleu figures this out, she runs away, forcing Balto to go after her and sending her on a journey full of self discovery. BALTO II is a delightful and adventurous children's yarn that imparts a valuable lesson about being oneself.

The story
=
The story is told by a grandmother who takes a walk with her granddaughter and her dog through a park. There they found a monument of a dog named Balto whose story is the foundation of this cartoon. Baltos half being a wolf is why the sledge dogs have expelled him from the village, but he still dreams about taking part on a sledge-dog-race. This is what the arrogant leading-dog Steel wants to prevent at all costs. Only the doggirl Jenna who belongs to the small girl Rosie does not look down on Balto and handles him as each every dog.
However, then the children of the village become so sick that they need urgently the medicine from another place which is not to be reached because of the strong snowfall on one of the usual ways...

Advantages: A good quality film for all the family (unless your dad's an animator), the quality is good Disadvantages: The story is a little weak and cheesy, And it feels rushed.
...This is one of the most least-heard-of-films I have ever known. Done by the same people who were responsible for American tale II. Set in Alaska, the story follows the story of a half wolf, half domestic dog who struggles to be accepted into the world of bob-sleighing, but suffers constant knock-backs from humans and other dogs. The has a friend goose who follows him around and gets into a bit of trouble. There is also a female of the species (of A species anyway) to add some romance. When a bobsleigh team sets out to collect badly needed medical supplies and bring them back to this town, they go missing. Balto goes and finds them and blah-de-blah. The animation is nearly all done by hand, with the occasional computer bit in it (for instance, the falling snow). The quality of animation is very good, the characters are well...

Advantages: Brilliant plot, art, animation, character development and just about anything you can think of. Disadvantages: Little extras on the DVD
...After being introduced to Miyazaki's work through the impressive Spirited Away, I decided to look at some of his older films. I purchased this DVD in a bundle with some other Studio Ghibli, but I enjoyed this one the most. If you enjoyed Spirited Away you are going to love this film.
The Film:
Storyline - The film's protagonist, Ashitaka, receives a fatal wound while battling a deranged demi-god. He is banished from his village and leaves on a quest to understand his wound before it finally kills him. The story spirals from there, with Ashitaka meeting wolf-girl San and her wolf-clan, along with a large host of interesting and developed characters. The characters really are powerful in this film, ranging from once powerful gods, to a fantastical spirit of the forest and a host of women saved from the harshness of city life only...
