Plot: Writer-director Rebecca Miller's third film (following ANGELA and PERSONAL VELOCITY) is a powerful, poignant drama, about a father and daughter, living on their own on the outskirts of nowhere. Daniel Day-Lewis (Miller's husband) stars as Jack Slavin, a 1960s farmer and man of the earth - working the land and defending his territory, while eschewing such modernities as television. Jack is devoted to his daughter, Rose (Camilla Belle), a 16-year-old girl who too, cherishes the relationship with her father. Jack however, is terminally ill, and out of concern for Rose, he invites his girlfriend, Kathleen (Catherine Keener), together with her two sons, Rodney (Ryan McDonald) and Thaddius (Paul Dano), to move from the mainland and live with them, thinking they can be Rose's family after he dies. But Rose begins to act out in dangerous ways, threatening to severely damage the special relationship she shares with her father - one that has already begun to fragment. Day-Lewis gives a shattering, emotional performance as Jack, and is matched well by Belle, who seems wise beyond her years. Filmed on location on Prince Edward Island, THE BALLAD OF JACK AND ROSE is a harrowing, intimate film set in a beautiful, lush land.

DVD Description
Writer-director Rebecca Miller's third film (following ANGELA and PERSONAL VELOCITY) is a powerful, poignant drama about a father and daughter living on their own on the outskirts of nowhere, just as developers are starting to move in. Daniel Day-Lewis (Miller's husband) stars as Jack Slavin, a 1960s holdover who is a man of the earth, working the land and defending his territory while eschewing such modernities as television. Jack is devoted to his daughter, Rose (Camilla Belle), a 16-year-old girl who is equally as devoted to him. But Jack is sick, so he asks his girlfriend, Kathleen (Catherine Keener), along with her two sons, Rodney (Ryan McDonald) and Thaddius (Paul Dano), to come from the mainland and move in with them, thinking they can be Rose's family once he dies. But Rose begins to act out in dangerous ways, threatening to severely damage the already fragile relationships that are developing. Day-Lewis gives a shattering, emotional performance as Jack, and he is matched well with Belle, who seems wise beyond her years. Filmed on location on Prince Edward Island, THE BALLAD OF JACK AND ROSE is a harrowing, intimate film set in a beautiful, lush land.

Episodes on the DVD:
Rose:
The very first episode and the one where you will find out how the Doctor and Rose meet. A quick episode synopsis would be deadly mannequins terrorise the community. I do not want to reveal too much for those who have yet to see the episodes but basically these mannequins are quite creepy. This episode really throws you into what the Doctor does and exactly why the idea to go with the Doctor was too tempting to resist for Rose. It is a great start to the series.
The end of the world:
Absolutely fantastic and my episode...

Advantages: Great concert, really well edited, great bonus features Disadvantages: Picture quality not amazing
...For those of you who don't know him or his music, Jack Johnson is a singer/songwriter from Hawaii. He plays in a band with 3 other guys, a drummer, bass player and piano and he himself plays guitar. So far he's released 3 albums, and 3 DVD's in the UK and has just been here on tour. His music is sort of soft folk rock, with catchy melodies and lyrics. At times it can sound quite jazzy, especially with the talented Zach Gill on piano. He appeals to people of all ages, you wouldn't be embarrassed to find your parents listening to him either, he's just that good!
I bought this from Play.com for £12.99, it's also available from Amazon, HMV and many other music/dvd stores.
I've been a Jack Johnson fan for a while now and having bought Thicker Than Water (his first DVD) I thought I would treat myself to this, and what a treat...

Advantages: You get to see the band behind the music! Disadvantages: Some poor quality videos
...The Stone Roses are arguably one of the biggest bands of the 20th century. Most of their songs are household names across the world.
This double DVD is fantastic value for money. It includes the Live gig in Blacpool from 1989 which at points is really bad quality. (mainly as Ian Brown isn't the best live performer)
The music more than makes up for the quality. The thumping opeing of I wanna be adored to start the show. The world renowned guitar intro for Waterfall which has gained more recognition recently for been the theme tune for the national lottery adverts.
The next part of the DVD are videos from when the songs were out in the charts. These videos are timeless classics, especially fools gold which just gets better the more you watch it.
The final part of the DVD collection is the TV performences. I love live music...
