When I first saw Baghban, my brother had bought it from the USA and I hadn’t heard of it so didn’t think it would be such a great movie. I saw Amitabh Bachan on the front of the cover, and decided that as he doesn’t act in as many movies as he did before I gave it a try. I found Baghban to be a good family film; however I wouldn’t recommend it for younger viewers as they may find it boring. I think it’s more suitable for the age of young adults and up.

The main role is that of Amitabh Bachan, his wife’s role is played by Hema Malani and together really bring the love of their characters relationship alive. You can really imagine what it would be like to know them and the deep love that they share for each other. Everyday after work she will know when he is coming home and have his tea ready for him. The affection they share for each other is portrayed excellently throughout this film and is breathtaking. They both posses excellent acting skills and have been in many films together before, and this film just proves even as they get older their acting skills are just getting better and better each time.

They both have 4 children of which 3 are married. His children are all adults and are all living away from home. The fourth and youngest of his sons is played by Salmaan Khan, another great actor of today’s modern society. Salmaan’s character, as mentioned before is of the youngest son and he is not blood related to his parents, but was adopted as a child.

The parents are proud of all their children, and without question have provided for their children all their lives, but now that Amitabh is looking to retire he expects his children to support him. This all comes as a shock to his 3 married sons and their wives, especially as the wives overall charchters are that of back seat drivers nagging about anything. They all start to fuss and argue over who should take them in and finally the cunning wives come up with a cruel plan to separate both the parents and take one parent each into their homes. This news was heart wrenching for mother and father as in all their years of them being married they have never been apart.

But with faith in their sons they go along with the decision. It’s a cruel 6 months apart from their true loves, but where Amitabh goes he runs into a Gujarati speaking character. They become good friends and the Gujarati man invites him to his bookshop/café to meet his wife and have tea. He spends him time writing about his love trying to pass his days, the gujarati couple really feel sorry for Amitabh and give him lots of support to be strong.

Finally the day comes when both husband and wife can see each other. I think I have already told you too much of the story line so you’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens next, whether they have enough money to survive what they will do to see each other. Is anyone going to help them??? Just watch it to find out!

The songs in this film are not great, they are nice, but again as I said before I do think that it would appeal more to the older generation. The costume of all the charchters is modern, and the whole film is set in India, with a few scenes in what looks like Europe, but I couldn’t be 100% sure on this. So watch the film and tell me what you think???!

Enjoy!
