I was off work sick today with a cold and this film really cheered me up. It is about a German woman who leaves her husband in the middle of a road trip and walks to the nearest hotel, in the middle of the desert. The family who own the hotel have their own problems, and the husband leaves. The film focuses on the relationship between the German woman and the family leading to a heartwarming happy ending. What I liked about this film was it's originality, as the story is very different to the standard plots of many other films. The film takes it's time to introduce all of the characters, who all have many layers and aren't sterotypical. You end up really caring about the characters and are genuinely pleased when things turn out well. The actors are brilliant, and manage to convey what is happening in the character's lives, without relying purely on the dialogue. While the film focuses on the day to day of relationships, there are some beautiful surreal moments, picked up by the stunning cinematography of the director. The final scene especially is a brilliant surprise, but I don't want to spoil it for everyone! My only complaints would be that the DVD extras are not very impressive, there are only lists of other things the actors have been in and some still photos.
